Blurb:

Sparks ignite when Cupid takes aim at two mortals in Las Vegas: Randy Jones, an average guy on a company vacation, looks into Garrett’s eyes at a craps table and time stands still. Throwing aside everything he believes, Randy engages in a torrid two-night affair with Garrett—only to panic when he realizes he’s fallen in love.

Cynical billionaire Garrett Shiffler has everything money can buy, and most of his dates can’t see past the dollar signs. Life has taught him that innocence and love are figments of the imagination. But when Randy disappears, taking with him feelings Garrett thought he’d never know, Garrett wages the most important battle of his life to win Randy's love—but this time he fights with his heart, not his bank account.

Meanwhile, Cupid wonders what happened. His golden arrows never fail unless the Fates interfere. If Garrett wants to win Randy back, he’s going to have to do it on his own, because the Fates have other plans for Cupid.

Excerpt:

After being carded yet again, the young-looking man entered the casino. Turquoise eyes sparkled with mischief as he searched the mob of people. He brushed his curly blond hair out of the way, looking for a certain type of person this time. Now he just needed inspiration to strike and he had his trusty arrows ready to go. Moving through the crowds, he looked this way and that. So many lonely humans to choose from, so many needed love in their life.

He was known by many names, but he preferred Cupid, the name his mother had given him. Greek mythology, Roman mythology… he shrugged. Little did the humans know just how badly they had messed up the pantheon, not that it mattered. He knew the truth, as did others of his kind.

His eyes searched the casino once more… there. There was what he was looking for. That man. With a grin he moved through the crowd.

* * * *

With a lazy, bored air, Garrett scanned the casino crowd at the Palms in Las Vegas, his eyes not seeing anything around him. He was restless, and even the usual thrill of gambling didn’t interest him. Idly, he bounced the dice in his hand, uninterested in the high-stakes game of craps he was playing. The crowd around him gasped when his luck took a turn for the worse, and he lost more on one roll than what some people made in a year. But even that didn’t snap him out of his current mood. Suddenly his luck changed with the next roll of the dice.

A shiver rolled through his body, and the hair pricked at the back of his neck. Something, a shift in the atmosphere maybe, caught his attention. Once again he scanned the crowd around the craps table, searching for… something. His eyes snapped back and focused on the man across the table from him. Time shifted and slowed, and the annoying noise of the casino floor receded into the background until all he could see was him.

Garrett’s heart shifted into fourth gear, revving wildly, then kicked in and took off at a pulse pounding pace. His mind conjured up a series of Technicolor scenes that required the man across from him to pose, bend, and stretch into any number of erotic and explicit positions. Garrett’s eyes traveled up to startled molten silver eyes, and another shiver raced through his body.

Those eyes shone with a sweet innocence Garrett rarely saw and doubted existed anymore. His mind crackled with disbelief. No one was that innocent, no one. But a long-buried part of his soul whispered in his ear… what if? What if the guy wasn’t a player and was what he seemed? Surprised by his body’s reaction, he decided to find out. He pinned the man across the table from him with his cold stare. A slight smirk hovered around Garrett’s mouth as he motioned the guy over next to him.

* * * *

Randy listened to the crowd cheer a player at the craps table. He strained to see, but being neither exceptionally large nor tall, he was at a distinct disadvantage. Then there was a break in the crowd and Randy wedged himself closer to the table. Dead center of the insanity, the very picture of male perfection stared at him intently.

He was taller than Randy by several inches, and his hair was the color of coffee, with silver streaks around the temples. It was cut above his ears with the back touching his collar. The top was teased a bit to stand up. He had a goatee and a dimple in his cheek, giving him a seductive, chiseled look. His eyes were the most amazing shade of minty green.

Muscular broad shoulders and a nice expanse of chest were wrapped in a desert sage dress shirt from the Prada’s line and matched with, oh yes, what was surely a tight ass poured into a pair of Botticelli’s handmade Italian jeans. He had to be in his early forties, a few years older than Randy.

His fingers, long and narrow, idly shifted through a huge mound of chips. Randy’s startled eyes landed on the fortune in front of the man. His eyes widened at the amount of chips, then shot up to the other man’s eyes. Randy trembled as chills ran up and down his spine as they made eye contact. The man across the table lifted his hand and motioned to Randy. Randy glanced around, then pointed at his chest in question. Again the man nodded and motioned Randy to join him.

“Me?” Randy mouthed at him.

“You,” he mouthed back.

Unsure, Randy stood there. Surely he didn’t mean him? The man hiked an eyebrow, and with an impatient gesture of his hand once more motioned for Randy to join him. Randy moved around the table, coming to stand nervously beside him.

“You seemed to have changed my luck when you walked up,” he said. His eyes traveled from Randy’s short, sun-streaked brown hair down to the tips of his shoes, then back up again, drinking in every detail. “Shall we see if I’m right?”

“Ah, sure,” Randy said, fighting to control the shiver that threatened to seize his body. He had never been so thoroughly checked out in his life. “But I don’t really believe I’m what you’d call a lucky charm, just so you know.”

Mr. Slick’s, Randy’s nickname for the guy, dimple deepened as he looked Randy over again, and his gaze lingered on Randy’s groin. Redness painted Randy’s cheeks as his mind questioned what he saw. Even if the stars were perfectly aligned and the galaxy tilted sideways, Randy couldn’t believe such a sexy man would find a regular guy like him interesting. The chances that Mr. Slick was gay were one in a billion, and really, who would take odds like that, even in Vegas?

“We’ll decide later what to call you. For right now let’s see if my luck holds now that you’re here.”

Randy stood quietly, unable to come back with anything witty. He hated situations like these. His mind went blank and he couldn’t think of anything to say that didn’t make him sound like a blathering idiot. He was so far out of his league with a guy like this. Mr. Slick was smooth and confident, polished and refined. And Randy… well, he worked an average job, owned an average house, and drove an average car.

That was him in a nutshell, just an average guy.

Manga & Romance Blog Hop

Hey guys! Over this weekend the Manga and Romance Blog Hop will be taking place. I’m really excited to be taking part in this hop. To hop from one blog to another use the highlighted link above.

 * * * *

I found yaoi a couple of years ago, but really didn't know what I had found. I don’t know much about it, but what little bit I do know, I enjoy. Now, gay romance I know lol. Frankly, I love reading and writing about M/M. The hotter the story, the better lol. When I found the genre several years ago I fell in love and, as they say, the rest was history.

I ran across a site called Literotica.com and stumbled across all the different sections they offered. On a whim I clicked to Gay Male. Oh my God, what rock had I been hiding under all these years??? The first author I read knocked my socks off. She was great, and some of you my know her—Pelaam. Then I went exploring and what a gold mine I had found.
After reading for a while I had to try my hand at writing a gay male love story. Which I did at Literotica. Okay, so I didn't have a clue what I had gotten myself into lol. Writing was SO much harder than I though. There was so much I didn't know! Well I learned, made mistakes, and learned some more. I made a bunch of friends, practiced writing, got good feedback, and still learn more lol.

During my first story on Literotica called Darkness Awaits, I found I really *liked* writing nonhuman. I focused on that for a while, then got a wild hair and wrote Priceless for a Valentine Day's contest at Literotica. Well, I didn't place, but know what? I liked writing about two normal guys just as much lol. Of course Cupid had something to say about me writing nonhuman for long, the imp.

After a while I took the plunge. I gathered up my nerve and published something. Thank God I stumbled across Literotica!

Contest for my Blog:
1) Join my blog, or let me know if you’re already a member.

Interview with Sam Singer

Hey everyone! Today I have Sam Singer with me. So come on in, pull up a chair and pick out a drink, lol. We're going to have some fun!

Today I'm highlighting her book Beholding Beauty. The release date is June 27th by Dreamspinner.

Sam Singer first discovered her love of writing in grade school, and it’s an affair that has continued to grow and flourish. She dabbled in traditional romance before finding her one true love: male/male erotica and romance.

When not writing about beautiful men getting hot and sweaty, she works part time as a librarian and enjoys baseball, feeding her caffeine addiction, and watching classic movies. She lives in a small town in the Midwest and is owned by her fickle Muse and insane cat, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Blurb:

Craig Ryan’s modeling dreams crashed and burned on the streets of LA. Still, a man has to eat, and the escort biz pays well, and the sex isn’t bad. Actually, Craig enjoys his new job and benefits. That is, until a client called Dee hires him. Dee is a mystery. He keeps his face hidden and prohibits touching, even when touching his mouthwatering body becomes Craig’s fantasy.

Falling for a customer was never in Craig’s plans. But wrapped inside Dee’s peculiar requirements, there’s a sense of loneliness and pain that strikes deep within Craig, awakening his own need for something more—something with a future beyond one-night stands..

Excerpt:

The elevator stopped and opened directly into the luxurious penthouse; it was huge with an open floor plan, elegantly furnished, and smelled faintly of sandalwood and leather. The kitchen gleamed with top-of-the-line chrome appliances. There was a nicely sized, but not ostentatious, LCD television to the left of a fireplace surrounded by built-in mahogany bookcases crammed full of books. The floors were gleaming hardwood with beautiful, intricate Persian rugs here and there. On the coffee table was an array of magazines—Time, Newsweek, Men’s Health, GQ, The Advocate, and Details—along with a book of erotic male photography. The entire west wall was made up of floor-to-ceiling windows that provided a spectacular view of the city at sunset, and there standing in front of them, looking out, had to be his client.

He was big, not overweight, but tall, lean, and most likely muscular if the broad shoulders were anything to go by. His hair was to his shoulders, dark, brown probably, and thick. He looked to be impeccably dressed in dark slacks and shirt—silk, Craig guessed. Despite a couple of years in the escort business and being plenty jaded, Craig was intrigued. He wished the man would turn around. He’d love to see if the front was as appealing as the back.

“I’m Craig,” Craig said evenly.

“I’m Dee,” his client said in a deep voice, not turning to face Craig.

Craig took a few uncertain steps closer. “I hope I’m what you wanted.”

“You’re fine,” his client replied shortly.

Craig frowned and his brows knitted together in puzzlement. How could he think Craig was fine when he hadn’t even turned to look at him? The first tendrils of unease began to unfurl inside him. This guy was big, strong, and could easily overpower Craig. Not that Craig was a slouch, but he didn’t have the muscle mass his client seemed to under his expensive clothes, and this guy was at least three inches taller than him.

There was a low mechanical hum, and the curtains began to close over the windows, shutting out the weak light from the setting sun. A second later the television clicked on.

“Have a seat, Craig,” Dee said, motioning to the overstuffed suede sofa.

Craig swallowed and nodded even though Dee couldn’t see. He sank down into the plush sofa but kept Dee in his line of sight. The curtains closed completely, and the only light came from the glow of the television and the dim recessed lights in the kitchen. Craig didn’t like this, didn’t like not being able to see his client, not being able to judge his reactions.

“Do you have a favorite genre of film?” his client asked, moving away from the windows and over to sit beside Craig. Craig looked over at Dee but couldn’t really make out any facial features because of the dim lighting, and Dee’s hair was obscuring his face. It didn’t exactly make Craig feel better about this situation.

Drop by and say hi to Sam at :

Now for the fun part, lol. *Rubs hands together* The questions:

~When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

As soon as I could string sentences together enough to make stories. I would always be writing in my free time in elementary school and on through high school. Other kids would look at me like I had two heads and ask “why?” I’d be like… “Because I like it”. That always got interesting looks. I guess other kids couldn’t understand why I would want to do something that resembled an assignment for class, but for me writing was fun.

~ You’re marooned on a small island with one person and one item of your choice—who is that person and what item do you have?

I would want survivalist Bear Grylls with me on that island. With Bear I know I’m gonna eat, have shelter, and damn well survive! As for what I’d want with me? I’d have to say a copy of Nightmares and Dreamscapes by Stephen King. It is a huge short story collection and has some of my favorite stories in it. So while Bear is off fishing for food or building a raft or whatever, I’d be reading . : )

~How do you come up with a title?

I hate titles! That is usually the last thing I write. I either browse some of my favorite quote sites for sayings that relate to the overall theme of a story or I pick song lyrics that fit.

~Which character caused you most difficulty to write?

The odd thing, characters don’t really give a problem. I always know everything about my characters when I start a story. It makes it easy for me to concentrate on the overall plot because I don’t have to worry about figuring out my character’s headspace.

~When do you do your best writing… morning, afternoon, evening, night?

I would say the morning. I’m up, I’m alone and I have a fresh, well-rested mind. In the afternoons I’m busy and in the nights I’m too tired.

~Out of all the stories you’ve written which one are you most proud of?

I only have 2 published stories so picking between them is hard. But I’m very proud of my new novella Beholding Beauty. It was such an awesome writing experience. The whole plot idea just came to me, complete and total. I bucked my usual tradition of writing out of order and wrote the whole story from beginning to end in a little less than a week.

Writing something that fast was also a new experience for me, new and very satisfying. My previous story Reconnecting was written in an afternoon. That doesn’t mean I’m any less proud of it but it was just a little short slice of life story. Beholding Beauty has a more involved plotline. I hope people enjoy it.

~Do you plan your stories and, if so, to what extent?

Not at all. I write what pops into my head whenever it pops into my head. Most of the time it means my scenes are written out of order and I splice them together as I go. I call it “Franken-writing”.

~How many stories do you work on at any one time?

One. Only and ever one. My poor little brain can only take a limited amount of characters talking to me at the same time.

~ Who’s your favorite horror villain and why?

I’m gonna say, John Kramer, also known as Jigsaw from the Saw franchise. He was scary because he was human and his victims had to make horrific choices to live. To me the human villains are always more frightening than Jason or Freddy, you know? And the creepy puppet on the tricycle helped…along with his deep raspy voice. : )

Okay, lol. I haven't seen the movies from the Saw franchise. And after looking at the pics probably won't!!! I'm not a horror fan... gives me nightmares, lol.

Hope y'all enjoyed meeting Sam! I had fun interviewing her. :) Drop by and give her a yell, guys! And be on the look out for her newest book Beholding Beauty. That cover is great, isn't it?

Interview with Julie Lynn Hayes

Hey everyone! Today I have Julie Lynn Hayes with me. I've pinned her down and poured a few drinks her, lol! Should be fun *wink, wink.* Pull up a chair, pick out a drink, and join us!  I met Julie several months ago when Romance First signed me.

After several conversations, and EIC edits, a friendship evoled. She was a godsend, let me tell you. I had questions, and she had answers! But not only that, she opened doors and introduced me to some wonderful authors in our genre. :)

Today I'm highlighting Growing Pains, a book she co-authored in the Southern Comfort Series. This is book #2.

Excerpt:  The swimming hole was almost barren at this time of day—the interval between school and dinner. Mark and Todd wasted very little time in stripping to their underwear and diving into the cool water. Mark soaked up the sunlight for a moment before heading toward the shadows. Todd followed.
”I bet this beats waiting for your ride?”
Mark was trying not to think about Blake or what he might think when he came out of band practice and Mark was nowhere in sight. He tried to push away the twinge of guilt that said he could’ve left a note. Or just found a way to let him know. What would he have done anyway, caused a scene in front of everyone? Not Blake. Not very likely.
Todd chortled. “Who were you riding with?”
“Um… Blake.”
”Should have known that.” Todd started swimming away, leaving a startled Mark. He stared after him for ten seconds before he followed, catching him just as he stopped, treading water and shaking his head.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I just meant I know you’re staying at his place, figures he’d give you a ride. Just a shame you have to wait for him every day.”
“Yeah, I know,” Mark murmured, his face reddening, not entirely because of the sun. He’d read too much into the other boy’s comment and assumed the worst. That only served to show how paranoid he was about being outed.
“Hey, I’m glad you decided to come out here with me. It’s been too long since we hung out together. I’ve missed that.”

Now for some fun, lol! *Rubs hands together* I asked Julie to answer her own questions. Yes, I turned them back on her, hehe. I've answered these for her, and while fun, they can sure make you think!

The Questions

You’re marooned on a small island with one person and one item of your choice—who is that person and what item do you have?
Hmm, that one person is Gary Oldman, and the one item is… let me think… a comfortable bed.  Yeah, I’m not planning on living very long, but damn, I’ll be happy!

Which musical would you say best exemplifies your life – and which character in that musical are you?
That would have to be Man of La Mancha, I think, because I’ve spent most of my life tilting at windmills and taking up the cudgel in defense of someone else. So  that makes me Don Quixote, I do believe.

Take these three words and give me a 100 word or less scenario using them:  weeds, rain, lawnmower
Richard Harris may have left his cake out in the rain, but damned if I didn’t leave the lawn mower. I know, stupid thing to do. Cheap lawn mower—stupid rain. Guess it wasn’t quite the value I thought it was when I plunked down a whole $25 for it at Cousin Jed’s Bargain Barn, huh? Now I’m left standing in weeds up to my ass, and people with metal detectors keep coming come by, like they think they’re gonna find something valuable there. Where’s Jeff Foxworthy when you need him? I think I might be a redneck!

You’ve just been let loose in the world of fiction, with permission to do anyone you want. Who do you fuck first and why?
Wow, what a loaded question! Who to do, who to do, who to do. There are so many wonderful heroes out there, from the angsty Heathcliff to Mr. Rochester, to any of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s hot men. Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot.  But I’ll start with a true Southern gentleman who always knew how to treat a lady, and appreciated her for she is, not who society wants her to. I’ve read the book 17 times, there has to be a reason, so I’m choosing Rhett Butler, from Gone With the Wind.

What is your idea of how to spend romantic time with your significant other?
Sad but true, I don’t have one, I’m separated from my husband and not dating. But just pretending, I’d probably be the sort that likes to cook a good meal and then cuddles up to watch some TV or a movie. In reality, I am at my computer all the time, writing and editing lol.

When you start a new story, do you begin with a character, or a plot?
Usually character. In my experience, plot follows along once you begin to think about your character, although sometimes they come hand in hand. One of my current WIPS, When Will I See You Again is one such mixture, but I won’t comment on the plot since that would be a spoiler. Sometimes inspiration comes from a prompt, such as those from the Wednesday Briefs, or Silver Shorts, and then it’s usually character driven as he begins to speak in my ear and I scramble to get it down before I lose it  lol.

If they were to make the story of your life into a movie, who should play you?
Wow, I’m torn between Nicole Kidman and Barry Humphries (Dame Edna).   I really don’t know, but my husband used to say I looked like Juice Newton, so maybe her. Or Jan Smithers – she played Bailey in WKRP in Cincinnati.  Glenda Jackson – there’s another thought.  I know – Julianne Moore! Yes, that’s it. I choose Julianne Moore. She’s a great actress and she was a wonderful Clarice in Hannibal.

Who’s your favorite horror villain and why?
Wow, that’s a hard on, I do love me some horror films. Dracula is too obvious because I don’t consider Dracula to be a horror film but a romance lol So let’s look at real horror films. Then I’d have to say John Kramer, of the Saw films. He was a man of integrity, and he had reasons for what he did, and he wasn’t the evil guy that he’s oft depicted as being. Of course, there’s Dr. Hannibal Lecter, but again I don’t see him as the villain, rather I find him the hero of his books/films, so let’s just call it a tie, okay? Both of them.

Do you have an historical crush and if so, who is it?
Oh yes, I do, for many years now. Go to my blog and it’s no secret – Cardinal Armand Jean DuPlessis Richelieu.  After him would come Napoleon, but Cardinal Richelieu is first. I admire his intellect and his ability to handle running an entire country from behind the throne of a foolish king. That makes me tres sexy, in my book.

Is there a story that you’d like to tell but you think the world isn’t ready to receive it?
Yes, but I already wrote it and the world is going to receive it in February – Revelations. It’s a contemporary Biblical story that addresses the question – what if the Second Coming has already happened? And then some? I wrote it in a multiple POV, first person, but the protagonist closest to my heart, the hero of the book, is Judas Isacariot.
Thanks for having me on your blog, MA!  It was a blast!
Loved every minute of it Julie, lol!

A little about Julie:

Julie Lynn Hayes was reading at the age of two and writing by the age of nine and always wanted to be a writer when she grew up. Two marriages, five children, and more than forty years later, that is still her dream. She blames her younger daughters for introducing her to yaoi and the world of M/M love, a world which has captured her imagination and her heart and fueled her writing in ways she'd never dreamed of before. She especially loves stories of two men finding true love and happiness in one another's arms and is a great believer in the happily ever after.
She lives in St. Louis with her daughter Sarah and two cats, loves books and movies, and hopes to be a world traveler some day. Currently unemployed,  she continues to write her books and stories  and reviews which she posts in various places on the internet. Her family thinks she is a bit off, but she doesn't mind. Marching to the beat of one's own drummer is a good thing, after all.  Her published works can be found at Romance First Publishing, Dreamspinner Press, and Silver Publishing.

I hope you guys enjoyed the interview! I had fun doing it, lol. Please make sure to check out her blog and her links. :)

Nighttime Dreams

Hey guys! I've got good news, LOL!!!

The sequel, Nighttime Dreams, is now under contract with Romance First! The release date is November.

So yay! And I'm kinda happy with that date because I've got lots of stuff coming in the next few months and don't want it to get lost.

Here's a little excerpt. Remember this hasn't gone through editing with the publisher so it may change. But I wanted you guys to meet Bryan, our country sheriff. :)

Nighttime Dreams
by MA Church

As Bryan opened his truck door he glanced back at the night sky. He ran his hand through his short inky black hair and shrugged. “Maybe I should follow Shawn’s example and make a few nighttime wishes myself. What do I have to lose? Absolutely nothing.”

He had gone straight to the police academy when he finished high school. At six and a half feet, with a muscular body, he breezed through. After graduation he had worked as an officer in one of the largest cities in the states, quickly moving up the ranks. He fell in love three times during those yearstwo men and a woman. Each left him. Their excuse was they couldn’t handle the stress of living with a police officer. He had known there were other reasons, especially with the men in his life.

Not long after the last break up he had been called to a bank robbery that went horribly wrong. The fleeing suspects had body armor and armor piercing bullets. The police had done their best, but were out-gunned. Several officers had died, along with many innocent bystanders, before the standoff was resolved. He came away with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Once recovered, Bryan knew he needed a change. He wanted peace, and the urge to return home was a constant thought.

By age thirty-two he had returned to his home town. A year later he won the office of sheriff in a close race. He had refused to hide his sexuality, and there were enough narrow-minded people who tried to use that to their advantage. Now, at thirty- four, what did he have to show for all his hard work? Not much outside of a few gray strands in his hair, several laugh lines around his sapphire blue eyes and a metabolism that slowed more with each passing year. He had to work longer in the gym to keep the washboard stomach, trim waist and tight ass.

“Wouldn’t you know it? The first person who’s snagged my attention ends up with an alien,” Bryan said, driving away from Shawn’s empty house. “And not the illegal kind either. I swear my luck sucks, sucks big time. Seriously, why can’t I catch a break? I just want someone to care for me like that, is it too much to ask for?”

Bryan pulled in his driveway and parked. Getting out of the truck he again stared up at the nighttime sky, failing to see the flickering light that followed him home.

“I wish you the best, man. You seemed to know what you wanted. I envy you.”

Locking the truck he went inside, stripped and got ready for bed. Now that the adrenaline had worn off his body was exhausted, but his mind refused to shut down for the night. Tomorrow would be a busy day, and he needed to be one his toes if called to deal with the suits. It wouldn’t be long until it was obvious Shawn was missing. Things were bound to get interesting then.
