~Marked by Moonlight #2

Chapter Three – Ward

AFTER THEY showered and dressed, Ward gave Kayden a list of things that needed done around the castle. Lance and Mika needed a paycheck, and since they weren’t comfortable leaving the castle right now, this was a way for them to earn money.

“Okay, thanks,” Kayden remarked while scanning the list. “Nothing too big, I see. We can definitely manage this. Thank goodness the rain’s stopped.”

“They might not be big projects, but it’s work that does need to be done,” Ward said.

“That’s true. We’ll get started on this. What are your plans for the day?”

“I’m going to have a mock battle with a Rihanna.”

Kayden opened his mouth and closed it again. “Does Rihanna know this?”

“Not yet, but she will shortly. It’s something that needs to be done because no one really knows what she’s capable of.”

Kayden grimaced. “Just… be careful. I know you said it’s a mock battle, but shit can still go sideways.”

“You’re absolutely right, but I will take the utmost care.” Ward leaned over and pressed a kiss to Kayden’s cheek.

They’d showered after they returned to Ward’s bedroom, the steam swirling around them like a warm embrace. The more primitive side of Ward had relished the sight of Kayden using his shampoo and soap.

As they emerged, Ward took a deep, subtle breath, savoring the comforting blend of fragrances that now lingered in the air.

“You know, you’re not as sneaky as you think you are.” Kayden poked Ward in the ribs. “I know you’re sniffing me.”

Ward’s wings flexed as he playfully slapped Kayden’s hand. “What can I say? You smell like mine.”

Kayden’s smile was as bright as a moonlit sky as he hugged Ward hard. “You always know what to say.”

“You make it easy.”

Kayden stepped back, then cleared his throat. “And if you continue saying such sweet things, we’re going to end up in that bed over there. So I’m going to go, and you’re going to do your mock battle—and not get hurt—and then I’ll see you at lunch. Okay?”

“Sounds like a plan to me.”

Kayden discreetly rearranged his cock, glared at Ward when he snickered, and left the bedroom.

As appealing as spending the entire night in bed together was, they both unfortunately had things to do. And speaking of which, he sent Rihanna a text message, asking her to meet him at the grand hallway of the castle.

TWENTY MINUTES later, Rihanna joined him, Celine in tow. Ward hadn’t mentioned bringing along Celine, but as he observed the two women approaching, he realized this unexpected addition might actually work for the better.

Celine was an incredibly strong magic user. Having her with them would ensure the mock battle stayed exactly that—mock. Not that he thought Rihanna would actually attack him.

He didn’t. But magic could be unpredictable and right then Rihanna was the very definition of unpredictable.

Ward led them from the castle to a barren field that was often used for training. The storm left the air crisp and clean, and the sky outside the windows glittered with stars.

“Here?”

“Yes,” Ward said.

“No trees and the ground seems pretty level. That should make things interesting. And muddy.” Rihanna’s voice echoed around them as she looked around.

“Good thing I know a spell to clean us up if we need it,” Ward said.

Rihanna snorted.

Ward knew her skill and strength might rival his, but he was still curious to see how she’d fare against him, the king of his kind.

“You sure you’re ready for this?” Ward asked. Tension crackled between them. The air was charged with electricity as they prepared for their mock battle.

Rihanna smirked. “You sure you are?”

Cockiness was a trait he absolutely could admire.

“I’ll hang back to contain anything that might go wild,” Celine said, moving to the field’s edge. “Please, both of you be careful.”

“Much appreciated, and we will.” Ward rolled his shoulders and cracked his neck, loosening his muscles. “No holding back.”

“As you wish.”

The electricity between them crackled in the air, a testament to the intensity of their fated connection. Then Kayden felt the gentle, rhythmic purr resonating through Ward, like a soft, continuous hum that vibrated against his skin.

Kayden’s heart melted just the tiniest bit more. And fucking hell, that was as cool as the first time he’d heard it. He moaned, desire thrumming through his veins. Ward’s scent was everywhere, its heady aroma seeping into his very being.

The frankincense was rich and dark, mingling with the earthy musk of stone and the sweet, floral softness of rose. It engulfed him, filled him, left him trembling with need.

The relentless desire settled heavily within Kayden. His breathing became shallow, and his pulse quickened, a frantic drumbeat.

Kayden’s hands moved with urgency, tracing the lines of Ward’s powerful body, reveling in every hard plane of muscle, every smooth surface of skin. His cock twitched eagerly, aching for attention.

Burying his other hand in Ward’s hair, Kayden pulled Ward closer, craving the taste and touch of his mate. Lifting to his tiptoes, he crushed his lips against Ward’s, pouring every ounce of desire into the kiss.

Kayden tasted Ward’s passion, their tongues tangling in a dance as old as time. He couldn’t get enough.

The rhythmic purr resonating through Ward filled the air, a soft hum that seemed to vibrate through Kayden’s entire being. The only other sound was the wet, desperate noises of their kiss.

Kayden’s body trembled with need as he pressed himself against Ward, their mouths melding together in a fiery embrace. Each kiss drove his need higher.

The deep and sexy sounds Ward made were almost more than Kayden could handle. He groaned as the intensity of their passion grew.

~From Marked by Moonlight, #2 in the Gargoyles of San DeLain

“YEAH?” KAYDEN smirked. “Then go ahead and get rid of those leather pants for me.”

Ward waved his hand, and they were both naked.

“Nice,” Kayden laughed as he stood. “Such a handy trick. I totally approve.” Did he ever. “Now stand up, please.”

Ward climbed to his feet, and for a moment, Kayden admired his stunningly elegant gargoyle. Ward’s natural form exuded a brutal strength, with muscular lines that rippled with power, yet there was an undeniable gentleness there too.

Those chocolate brown eyes could be cold and unyielding, yet they could also be full of understanding and compassion. However, there was a ruthlessness about him that served as a reminder of Ward’s fierce nature and his position as the king of the San DeLain gargoyles.

Ward usually remained in his natural form, and Kayden actually liked his mate’s midnight blue skin more than his human skin tone. He found himself irresistibly drawn to the striking presence before him.

Ward’s broad, impressive chest rose and fell with each deep breath. Muscles rippled beneath the skin, showcasing strength. His legs, sturdy as ancient tree trunks, stood firmly planted.

The powerful arms, thick and sinewy, displayed an intricate network of veins that Kayden longed to trace with his tongue. And that cock? The size of it? The thickness?

Oh yeah, it was perfect, just like the rest of Ward.

“Is everything okay?” Ward asked softly.

Kayden suddenly realized he’d been standing there for who knows how long, just staring at Ward. “Everything’s okay. I just kind of zoned out while I was admiring all that gorgeousness in front of me.”

Ward made his pecs jump and Kayden practically swallowed his tongue.

“Jeez, that’s hot.” Kayden placed his hands on Ward’s chest. “Do it again.”

Ward did, and Kayden had to fight not to drool all over himself. Why was that so damn hot?

Kayden’s hands roamed down and then behind Ward, caressing the top of his ass. Almost immediately he felt the beginning of Ward’s tail—the tail that seemed to have a mind of its own.

And speaking of which, it encircled Kayden’s upper thigh and was moving upward.

“Behave,” Kayden whispered.

Ward’s tail slowly unwound from around Kayden’s leg. “Sorry about that.”

Kayden pressed a kiss to Ward’s collarbone. “One day soon we’re going to find out just exactly what you can do with that tail, but not right now.”

“No?” Ward’s tail twitched behind him before falling still.

“No, because right now, it’s all about you. I believe your words were that you could take anything I dished out? So we’re going to test that assumption. I guess my first question is if you bottom?”

Ward shivered. “Hell yes.”

Kayden felt every tremor intimately. The reaction sent a rush of satisfaction through Kayden. It fed his ego knowing he could elicit such a powerful response from his formidable mate.

“Are we doing this here? In the observatory? Would you not rather be in a bed?”

Kayden glanced at the enormous glass windows and the breathtaking panoramic view of the stormy night sky. Lightning still flashed and thunder still boomed. It was electric and dangerous and fit them perfectly.

“Here is perfect, and I think—well, hell. There is one problem. Lube. We need lube, dammit.”

“Not a problem.” Ward muttered under his breath and a bottle of lube appeared on the end table.

“Magic lube. Nice.”

Ward grinned at Kayden, exposing his fangs. “I aim to please.”

“Trust me, I am pleased. Very.”

Teaser Tuesday

~from Marked by Moonlight, #2 in the Gargoyles of San DeLain

They reached the observatory and stepped inside. Massive glass windows arched into an elegant dome, revealing an unbroken expanse of stormy skies.

The room was a lush green oasis, filled with an abundance of plants of all shapes and sizes. Creeping vines cascaded down from the ceiling, while vibrant flowers dotted the room with bursts of color.

In the center of the room was a massive water feature, with water cascading down through rocks and plants, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere.

The air was heavy with the sweet scent of flowers and the earthy fragrance of soil and greenery. The water feature added a clean note to the mix. Kayden breathed in the fresh air and could almost taste the light sweetness of the blooming flowers.

Meanwhile, outside flashes of lightning illuminated the heavens, casting an ethereal glow throughout the space as the clouds outside churned and swirled.

The storm’s power pulsed through the atmosphere, filling the air with electric anticipation. The sound of rain was a steady drumming on the roof, a frantic symphony of nature unleashed.

Kayden settled on a low couch, eyes wide, captivated by the raw power of the elements. Ward joined him, wrapping an arm around his shoulders and pulling him close.

Kayden watched as the rain blurred the world into a watercolor painting, the lines of reality softening and bending under the storm’s insistence.

“It’s beautiful,” Kayden whispered.

Ward nodded. “I’ve always loved storms. It charges the air, makes me feel alive.”

Kayden leaned against Ward, the weight and solidness of his mate grounding. He felt the buzz of Ward’s energy mingling with his own, a brilliant tangle that made his skin tingle.

“I can see why you like it,” Kayden said. “It’s amazing. Kind of like you.”

The way the deep rumble of Ward’s laugh mixed with the thunder outside.

“You’re sweet.” Ward paused, then he really stared at Kayden.

There was such intensity in that gaze it made Kayden’s heart skip. “Okay, what? Do I have something stuck in my teeth?” Did he need to go hunt down a mirror or something?

“Of course not. I would’ve said something way before now.”

“I should certainly hope so. Okay? Then again, what? Why are you looking at me like that?”

Ward huffed. “I didn’t mean to make you think there was something wrong. I was just wondering how you’re feeling about everything?”

“What do you mean?”

“Just... this.” Ward gestured around them. “The castle, my clan, us. It’s a lot, I know.”

Kayden met Ward’s eyes. “It’s everything I’ve ever wanted. I love it here. I love being with you.”

Ward’s expression softened, and his arm tightened around Kayden. “Then you have everything. Because you have me.”

Kayden smiled. “Forever?”

“And always.” Ward kissed the top of Kayden’s head, lingering in the moment.

Kayden sighed happily, turning back to watch the storm. The lightning continued to dance across the sky, the rain relentless in its ferocity. The world outside might have been chaos and wildness, but here, pressed against Ward, a deep sense of rightness settling over Kayden.

They sat in silence as the storm raged, content to simply be together, the untamed beauty of the night stretching out before them, endless and full of promise.

“I have a secret to share with you,” Ward said slowly. “Something that we gargoyles guard seriously.”

“Well damn, you certainly have my attention.” Kayden turned so he could see Ward’s face. “A secret, huh?”

“The most secret of secrets,” Ward said. “And it directly affects you.”

Kayden suddenly realized Ward was not playing around. There was a steely resolve in his eyes that suggested this was no game. Unspoken tension thickened the air between them, piquing Kayden’s curiosity. “What’s going on, Ward?”

“Remember me telling you there was a way to extend your life span?” Ward asked.

Oh boy did he ever. “I do.”

“Well, now that we’re mated, you have a decision to make. There is a way to extend your life, and that’s by drinking my blood.”

“I’m starting to see you guys have a lot more in common with the vampires than I thought.”

“You’re not completely wrong. Honestly? In some ways, all paranormals have some sort of commonality. But anyway, you don’t have to drink a lot of my blood, but in the beginning, it will need to be fairly often.”

“Of course it will be.”

“Like once a week. As time goes on, that’ll change as your body adjusts. Also? You’ll stop aging. Whatever you look like when you first take my blood will be how your body will remain.”

Kayden gaped at Ward. “Holy shit, Ward. Holy shit. That’s….”

He struggled to find words that could express the magnitude of what Ward was saying. His mind raced as he tried to absorb it all. What did this mean for him?

“That’s major. Like major major.”

The implications stretched endlessly before him. A life he’d never imagined suddenly was unfolding in front of him… and impossibly long. It was as scary as it was exciting. And would be sad eventually too when those he knew and cared for died.

He’d outlive his friends. But forever with Ward? Yes, please. It surprised him to realize how much he wanted and needed that. He swallowed hard, his throat tight with an emotion he couldn’t name.

“Does that mean I’ll be immortal?” Kayden held his breath.

“There’s no simple answer to that. You’ll live as long as you take my blood. If you stop, you’ll start aging. That’s pretty standard for any human who takes a gargoyle’s blood. But, since we’re Fated mates, if I die, you die. If you die, I die. We are now linked.”

Teaser Tuesday

~teaser from Marked by Moonlight, #2 in the Gargoyles of San DeLain

“Good morning,” Ward rasped.

Kayden shivered. That voice sent little sparks of pleasure through him every damn time. So deep and so sexy.

“Good morning.” Kayden reached out and touched one of Ward’s wings. The sensation of static electricity buzzed through Kayden’s fingertips, his power reacting to his mate.

That never got old, either. Did it hurt? No. Did it make him tingle? Oh yes.

Ward leaned in, brushing his lips lightly across Kayden’s, a teasing kiss that deepened into something more, leaving Kayden breathless.

“I’m glad you’re here,” Ward murmured once he ended the kiss.

“Where else would I be?” Kayden grinned up at him. “Besides, you did promise me breakfast.”

Ward chuckled, folding his wings neatly behind him. “Then let us go before the storm gets here.”

They headed down from the roof, the ancient stone stairs echoing with their footsteps. The castle was a maze of corridors and shadowy alcoves, each turn revealing another piece of its old-world charm.

Rich tapestries hung from the walls, their colors muted by time, while flickering electric sconces cast a warm glow across the stone walls. He lived in a freaking castle. How cool was that?

Kayden loved the ambiance, the weight of history that seeped into every corner. It was so different from the sleek, modern world he’d grown up in. Here, even the air felt alive, charged with the presence of Ward and his clan.

“Do you think it will be a bad one?” Kayden asked as they reached the ground floor, his thoughts turning to the storm once more.

“Probably. Feels like it.” Ward opened a heavy wooden door that led to the dining area. “We haven’t had a good storm in a while.”

Teaser Tuesday on a Wednesday

~teaser from Marked by Moonlight

Another crack ripped through the air. Seriously, this never got old. The sight was as entrancing as it was powerful, a spectacle that never ceased to amaze and captivate him entirely.

As more fragments fell away, then disappeared into nothingness, Ward’s enormous leathery wings, glossy and smooth, unfurled to their full majestic span.

The scent of ozone and electricity filled the air as Ward’s wings spread, the palpable energy of the storm mingling with the sweet musk of gargoyle. Or at least of his gargoyle.

Kayden glanced at the night sky. Yup, that was one badass storm heading their way.

Ward’s body twisted and morphed, muscles rippling under his midnight-blue skin like waves. Color reappeared as soft blue veins surfaced on his shoulders, then extended to his arms and chest. Gradually, it spread downward.

A low, guttural growl emanated from Ward’s throat as he stretched, working the kinks out as his muscles adapted to his newly revealed self. His skin was now a smooth midnight blue instead of gray stone.

Teaser Tuesday

Okay, we're starting Marked by Moonlight, #2 in the Gargoyles of San DeLain!

Chapter One - Kayden

THE SUN sank below the horizon, casting long shadows and painting the sky in hues of pink and orange as Kayden beelined toward a specific gargoyle perched on the castle’s roof.

As the encroaching darkness swept across the land, he came to a halt in front of Ward, his mate. The surrounding air crackled with the electricity of an approaching storm.

Excitement coursed through Kayden as he heard the initial pop of breaking stone. Then fragments scattered onto the roof. It wouldn’t be long now.

His sense of anticipation sharpened as he watched a crack spread like a spider’s web. He leaned closer, his entire world narrowing to the miracle unfolding before his eyes.

How many times had Kayden watched this transformation? Not many because gargoyles didn’t share this private moment with just anyone. But he wasn’t just anyone, now was he? He was the mate of the king of the San DeLain gargoyles.

Teaser Tueday

~Seduced by Moonlight, Gargoyles of San DeLain, #1

Kayden motioned to his people. “Let me introduce my crew. This is Mika Suppasit, my foreman. And this is Lance Smith. If you cannot get ahold of me or Mika, go to Lance if there is a problem.” Then Kayden introduced the rest of his crew.

Ward gestured to several of the gargoyles who stood behind him. “This is my council—Luna Simmons, Scarlett Owens, Emmett Crawford, Dean Woods, and Joel Ross.” After Ward introduced each gargoyle, he gestured for everyone to follow him inside. “Let’s discuss what I need done, then. Welcome to my home.”

“My crew and I thank you for your welcome,” Kayden said. “May my entire crew come with us, or would you prefer them to wait here?”

Kayden noticed that the other gargoyles left once they were inside, leaving just two behind. He wasn’t sure why they stayed. Protection, maybe? It was kind of weird.

“They’re welcomed. They’ll need to know how to get around the castle anyhow,” Ward tossed over his shoulder.

Which was a valid point, since Kayden was debating asking for maps as they trailed Ward through the endless hallways and stairs in the castle. Their feet echoed against the stone floors as they passed by towering tapestries and intricately carved sculptures.

Scenes of heroic battles and ancient lore adorned the walls, each telling its own story. With every step, it felt as though they were walking through time itself, surrounded by the rich history of the castle.

The rustle of fabric and the tapping of shoes on stone floors echoed in the high ceilings. The dim lighting inside the castle cast shadows on the stone walls and floors, giving a sense of depth and mystery to the space.

Which made Kayden think the entire castle needed to be rewired. Was the scenery lovely? Of course it was. His gaze darted to the creature next to him. Present company definitely included, but Kayden was there to work, not gawk.

But that ass. In those pants. Those leather pants.

Nope, no gawking, even if that was a gawk-worthy ass, and he had to stop this shit before he got aroused and everybody around him smelled it. That was one of the curses of working with a bunch of paranormals—their sniffers were amazing.

But between that ass and that voice, he was in trouble.

Ward hesitated before a heavy wooden door, worn from years of use. With a steady push, he swung it open. Aged wood and old paper filled the room with an earthy, musty scent.

In the center of the space stood a massive oak table, its surface cluttered with an array of maps and architectural drawings. Kayden was pretty sure he’d never seen such a large table.

He and his crew entered the grand room. As they looked around, the sculptures adorning the space caught Kayden’s gaze. Each one depicted a gargoyle frozen in time.

Their features captured different expressions—some were fierce and poised for battle, while others seemed lost in deep thought. These silent watchers lined the walls, adding an eerie presence to the already extravagant room.

They were beautiful and terrifying, and he hoped to hell they were not real, because that thought was actually more disturbing than the statues themselves.

Ward stopped at the table and spread his large midnight-blue hands flat on the surface. Kayden stood next to him, and his crew spread out around the table.

“This is a schematic of the castle. Here”—Ward pointed at a section of the castle layout on one map—“is where I need your expertise. Weather erosion has affected the west wing, and the recent attack by hunters worsened the damage. We’ve taken measures to protect the interior, but it needs a professional’s touch to fully repair it.”

Good grief, the gargoyle was tall. And massive. Those leather pants were fighting for their life. They were so tight, and holy shit, that was a very inappropriate thought to have on the job, even if it was true.

And it was soooo true.

And if someone could tell him why the gargoyle smelled so damn good, that would be awesome, thanks. Kayden didn’t normally care for perfume, but whatever Ward wore was totally working for Kayden.

Like, was it ever. Down boy.

Kayden got his head back in the game—his other head—and leaned over the indicated area. “We can definitely fix this. I’ll need to examine it—to match the original stonework, for example—but also so I can get a good feel of what needs to be done. Can we do that tonight?”

“Of course,” Ward said.

Kayden stood tall and unafraid—because damned if he was going to be intimidated—when a pleasant buzz of electricity shot through him. He fought to keep the surprise off his face. What the hell was his power doing? It never reacted to others.

As the gargoyle approached, his power retreated. He stopped before them, his gaze sweeping over each member of Kayden’s team before settling on him. Kayden caught himself from running a hand through his hair. What was he doing? Had he lost his damn mind?

Instead of answering that question, he focused on the several gargoyles behind that first one.

“Welcome to my home,” the gargoyle’s voice boomed. “I am Ward Tywyll, king of the San DeLain gargoyles. I trust your journey was uneventful?”

King? That was the king? Of course that was the king. He was the most powerful, even if he wasn’t the biggest. But he was big enough. And holy hell, that voice was pure sex—deep and growly—and Kayden fought not to shiver.

The gargoyle king could give that actor Vin Diesel a run for his money as far as voices went. And why was Kayden’s power suddenly fluctuating like it was being called?

Mentally, Kayden slapped himself. Snap out of it, dude.

“It was fine. Thank you for hiring my company and allowing us on to your property,” Kayden replied diplomatically as he walked to Ward and held out his hand. “I look forward to working with you, Your Majesty.”

“Please call me Ward.”

“Thank you. Call me Kayden, then.” Shit. Shaking hands? Really, Kayden? It was a very human thing to do, and the male before him certainly wasn’t human. Get it together, dumbass!

Luckily, the gargoyle king didn’t take offense.

Although he had glanced down at Kayden’s hand and the tattoos there. He gritted his teeth. Oh well, if Ward had a problem with that, that wasn’t his problem. Thankfully, the handshake hadn’t lasted long.

The static electricity sure stung too.

Kayden parked the truck at a respectful distance from the castle entrance, then killed the engine. He looked over at Mika and nodded toward the building. “Ready for this?”

“As ready as I’ll ever be,” he replied.

Kayden unbuckled his seat belt. “Time to see if the gargoyles are as talkative as their wards are clingy.”

He and Mika stepped out, followed by their crew who had driven in behind them. Everyone gathered around Kayden, waiting for instructions.

“Remember, respect their rules and follow my lead,” Kayden instructed firmly. “We’re here to work, not cause trouble.”

“Heads up,” Mika whispered as he nodded toward the massive doors of the castle that swung open.

A figure emerged, tall and imposing with skin the color of the deepest blue. The gargoyle’s eyes glinted with an unnatural light, like a cat at night.

Kayden was more than a little surprised that the gargoyle approached them in his true form. But then again, why wouldn’t he? Kayden had assured Ward that what humans were on his crew were well aware of the paranormal world.

And yes, Kayden had told them their client was a gargoyle king. Still, this was definitely unexpected, and he didn’t quite know what to make of it.

He’d never seen a gargoyle in anything but their human glamor, and woo wee, this was a big one. Like massively big. Like, his muscles had muscles.

The gargoyle’s power surged forward, coming at them like a fierce wave crashing onto the shore. But instead of knocking him off his metaphorical feet, it wrapped around Kayden like a purring cat. He could literally feel the ancient magic of the gargoyle coursing through him.

Oh yes, this gargoyle was a force to be reckoned with.

~Teaser from Seduced by Moonlight

“Can you not smell her power? She has the Power of Three,” the witch screeched. “There has not been a being with that ability in centuries, and those hunters gave this foul creature such an ancient power through DNA manipulation, and—”

“The hunters are the foul—”

“—and we’re going to bleed the power from her and take it for ourselves, and gargoyle king, if you interfere, we will also deal with you.”

Ward chuckled. The sheer nerve of this one. They threatened him when they were the ones in danger. Reasoning with such creatures was useless. They only understood one thing—power.

“Your interference will not only cause your death, but your clans too.”

Anger, bright and swift, rushed through Ward. Threatening him was one thing. Threatening his clan was another. The surrounding darkness glowed with a red light as his eyes flared with an ancient power, a reminder of his lineage and the responsibilities it entailed.

He wasn’t merely a guardian of stone. He was an alpha king, as powerful as the most powerful sorcerer. “You dare to threaten—”

“Mmmph! MMMPH!” the woman in the circle struggled to yell.

The hair on the back of his neck tingled, and he looked over his shoulder to see a curse come screaming at him. He spun while still gripping the witch. Before he could raise a shell to protect either of them, she chanted a transportation spell and disappeared.

Her counterpart, who was still conscious, screamed in dismay.

Ward pulled a shield around him. Had the leader of this coven really abandoned her sisters? Why didn’t the other three transport? Were they not powerful enough?

The other two, who Ward thought were unconscious, joined the last remaining witch. They unleashed a barrage of spells, one after the other, each one more deadly than the last, but his shield held, pulsing, a vibrant cascade of light that blunted the assault of spells as he rushed them.

He reached out with one massive hand, grabbing at the air, and the magic at his command twisted the space between them, distorting it with a visible ripple.

He dragged one witch through it, flinging her against a tree several feet away with a sickening crack. He didn’t hear a heartbeat. Good. One down, two to go. The other two ran, darting through the woods.

Ward took to the air once more, arrowing straight for the retreating figure, his wings beating powerfully, kicking up a gust that scattered leaves and debris.

He caught up to the slower of the two, and with a powerful sweep of his claws, decapitated her. Just as he swooped down upon the nearest one, a sturdy branch whipped out, hitting the witch right across her throat.

Her feet flew out from underneath her, and she hit the ground, her head at an awkward angle. There was no heartbeat either.

Silence fell over the grove, broken only by his harsh breaths as he landed. His eyes dimmed as he calmed himself, reigning in the anger. His shield dissipated into wisps of light that faded into the darkness. “Thank you, Mother Earth.”

Three of the witches were dead, but one had escaped.

Ward charged the circle, roaring. Above him, the ravens shrieked, adding to the chaos as they flew off. The robed figures recoiled in terror, one stumbling back and knocking over a stone that had been part of the ritual’s design.

Its disruption caused a ripple effect, and the carefully constructed magic unraveled, sparks of dark energy fizzing into the night air like dangerous fireworks. Then he sensed his wards screaming a warning. Good gods, they’d somehow dampened his wards.

“Release her,” Ward commanded, unfurling his wings, his tail whipping menacingly behind him.

One particular witch, distinguishable by an intricate amulet that hung low around her neck, stepped forward, pulling back her hood to reveal a face twisted by dark intent and eyes that gleamed like molten silver. Her hair was an unnatural shade of deep violet.

“You do not understand, gargoyle king. And you meddle in things that don’t concern you. Leave us.”

“My land.” Ward snarled, revealing sharp fangs and a forked tongue. “My concern. You do not command me. I am king here, and I—”

“I have no time for you.” The robed figure sneered, then raised her hands, muttering, as her hands glowed.

~From Seduced by Moonlight, #1 in the Gargoyles of San DeLain

The air was thick with anticipation, or perhaps it was just the mist that clung stubbornly to the ground. And where had that come from?

He noticed the ceremonial stones laid out in a perfect circle, along with the four figures in dark robes chanting in an ancient tongue, one that he hadn’t heard in a considerably long time.

Sacrifice. Someone was committing a ritual sacrifice by black magic on his land. Why the hell had the wards not alerted him to the fact? They should’ve.

The chanting words were powerful and resonant, vibrating through the air. With each syllable spoken, the markings on the stones glowed softly at first, then brighter and brighter.

Within the circle stood a bound figure, struggling feebly against the ropes that bound their wrists. Ward froze when the person glanced right at him—her eyes were wide with terror, her mouth gagged to stifle any pleas for mercy.

Teaser Tuesday

From Seduced by Moonlight, #1 in the Gargoyles of San DeLain

His senses heightened as he crept through the trees, and the sounds of the forest grew quieter as he ventured further into the darkness. Very, very odd.

Then Ward sensed it—magic. Black magic.

Suddenly, the usual nocturnal sounds stopped completely, replaced by a charged silence. His foxy friend darted off, and the birds darted ahead. Ward’s senses picked up a faint scent among the damp earth and decaying leaves. It was a scent laced with fear and something else—something metallic.

Blood.

Ward’s protective instincts surged to the forefront as he followed the scent trail. The moonlight cast eerie shadows through the twisted branches, creating patterns that danced on the ground.

Close. He was close. He could smell how close he was, but there was nothing—wait. Wait. What was that? Was that…? Yes. It was chanting. As the moon cast a pale, eerie glow over the secluded grove—his secluded grove—Ward came to a stop and stared in shock. Who were these people who dared trespass on his land?

Teaser Tuesday

Concealed in the shadows, Ward made his way into the forest that surrounded his home. The moon shone down, illuminating the winding path in its silvery glow.

As he walked, the scent of pine and earth filled his nostrils, reminding him of the peace and quiet that could be found in this secluded place. He loved his clan, but he still savored these moments alone. The forest gave him peace.

Ward smiled faintly as the symphony of crickets, cicadas, and other insects filled the air, their chirping growing louder, almost as if they understood he needed to be distracted from his thoughts.

Nearby, the cry of a raven echoed through the air. Taking a quick glance around, he noticed a number of the birds perched on branches, observing him intently.

A small fox darted out from the underbrush, body submissive as it approached. Its fur glowed softly under the moonlight as it stopped a few feet away, first staring at the birds then at Ward, its eyes reflecting a cautious curiosity.

Odd.

Intrigued, Ward knelt down slowly, extending a hand toward the small creature. The fox, after another quick glance at the ravens, cautiously edged closer, its nose twitching as it sniffed his outstretched hand.

Giving a soft chuff, the fox seemed to accept him, coming forward to nuzzle against his palm, nervous. Something seem to be bother it.

“What troubles you, little one?” he asked gently.

The fox’s ears twitched, then it turned its head slightly toward the north before looking back at Ward. Understanding dawned on him—this was not just a chance encounter. There was a problem.

“Something is amiss deeper in his woods, yes? Is that why you seek me out? Okay, then.”

As Ward rose to his feet, the ravens took to the skies.

Teaser Tuesday

Okay, since Beyond the Darkness is now on preorder, I'm going to start teasers from Seduced by Moonlight, #1 Gargoyles of San DeLain.

We met Ward, the king of the gargoyles in the daemon series. Now we're gonna get to know him lol.

Chapter One – Ward

AS NIGHT crept across the land, Ward Tywyll stepped outside his castle walls. The imposing structure stood tall behind him, its centuries-old stones a testament to strength and resilience.

Shadows danced across the surface, highlighting the scars from previous battles. His own blood graced those walls. A hot breeze teased his hair, and he huffed.

Summer was finally coming to a close. The once-lush green fields now held more hints of brown and gold. A faint hint of floral perfume still lingered even shades of orange, yellow, and red began to dominate the landscape as leaves changed color.

Ward gazed about his home, pride filling his chest. This place had withstood the test of time. It rose from the earth like a beast of ancient legend, its stone walls weathered and worn from centuries of standing tall against the winds of time.

As the Alpha King, it fell upon him to protect and promote the well-being of his kin, as it should be. And he fulfilled that duty. But there was no denying a restlessness stirred deep within, bubbling up from some unknown place and seeping into every aspect of his being.

It gnawed at him, urging him to move, to do, to find that something that was missing. Only he didn’t know what was needed—he couldn’t quite put his finger on it—and the restlessness was increasing, like a wild beast trapped inside him, clawing at the walls of his soul.

As soon as the sun set, its last lingering rays gone and stone no longer encased his body, a primal urge surged through him, a deep hunger that demanded satisfaction. The call to leave, to hunt, was irresistible.

But, again, he didn’t know what he was hunting for or where to look. He’d tried ignoring the need, resisting the call, for all of the good it did. Recently, he’d developed a habit of strolling through his territory, hoping to find some form of solace. He wasn’t sure what he was trying to achieve, other than maintaining his sanity.

After completing his required tasks, he couldn’t resist the urge to wander.

With a quick check of his cell phone, he saw it was quickly approaching midnight. Well, he’d lasted longer than usual. With a wave of his hand, Ward cast a powerful glamour to hide his true form—that of a fearsome gargoyle.

Although he shouldn’t run across humans, especially since his territory was quite a distance from San DeLain, that didn’t mean a hiker didn’t get lost out there occasionally.

Concealed in the shadows, he made his way into the forest that surrounded his home. The moon shone down, illuminating the winding path in its silvery glow.

Teaser Tuesday

Hudson nuzzled Kit’s ear and squeezed his ass, his other arm around Connie’s waist. Desperate for air, Kit pulled away, sucked in a breath, then slammed his mouth over Hudson’s.

Kit ended the kiss, then stared into Hudson’s eyes. “I love you, you magnificent dragon. Can you feel how much I love you?”

Hudson rumbled happily. “I can. I love you too.”

“I can feel it.” Kit turned to Connie and pulled him closer. “I love you too, my sexy dragon. Can you feel how much I love you?”

“I do. We both do. And we both love you.”

Kit wiggled his way out of their arms and dropped to his knees, his determination clear in the way he moved. With nimble fingers, he swiftly pulled down the waistband of Hudson’s night pants and pulled out his cock.

Connie was next, and Kit wasted no time in freeing him as well. His hands wrapped around both hard lengths, eager to please them both. He took Connie into his mouth, sucking frantically and using his tongue to wet every inch of him.

Connie’s groans filled the air, encouraging Kit to continue his work. After a few moments, he switched his attention to Hudson, giving him the same intense treatment. Back and forth he went, alternating between the two and driving them crazy with pleasure.

The bond between them pulsed with a primal, urgent need that sent shivers down Kit’s spine.

Connie’s lips parted as he lost control, revealing his clenched teeth as he gasped for air. Eyes closed tightly, his chest rose and fell rapidly with each ragged breath. His brows furrowed in either pleasure or pain—Kit couldn’t tell as he gazed up through his eyelashes.

Kit milked Connie eagerly, taking everything he had to give. With a satisfied sigh, Kit turned his attention back to Hudson, and their bodies moved together like dancers in a passionate duet.

Hudson’s moans crescendoed, reaching a fever pitch as he finally released with a guttural cry of pleasure. The air was thick and heavy, filled with the heady scents of passion and sweat mingling together.

Drops of perspiration glistened on Kit’s skin. Every inch of him was alive and buzzing with electric energy, fueled by the intensity of their shared desire.

“Gods, I’m dizzy,” Connie complained, leaning against a counter full of crowns, a silly grin on his face. “I think you sucked my brain out of my dick.”

Kit’s laughter died in his throat when Hudson threw him over his shoulder and headed out of the hoard.

Snorting, Connie followed them.

Teaser Tuesday

~Beyond the Darkness, #3 in the Dragons of San Delain series

AFTER WHAT felt like an eternity, Kit was suddenly jolted awake by a surge of excitement coursing through the bond. A bolt of adrenaline rushed to his limbs, urging him to sit up and scan the room frantically. His gaze was immediately drawn to the hoard’s door. His mates were out there, eager to unlock it so they could finally get to him.

The door swung open with a loud creak, and Hudson burst through like a force of nature. His strides were long and purposeful, his gaze fixed on the target in front of him. Kit’s breath caught as he watched Hudson approach.

He’d always thought Hudson was sexy, but there was something different about him now. A raw, untamed energy emanated from every inch of his body, giving off an air of danger and unbridled sensuality.

It was both intimidating and alluring at the same time. Hudson’s eyes were still the color of his dragon, and redness rode on his cheeks. His long hair flew around him as he advanced toward Kit.

Connie’s short hair was becomingly messy, and there was color on his cheeks too. The stubble on his jawline only added to his rugged appearance. His eyes were human brown and blazed with intensity, yet they practically glowed with warmth and affection.

Jumping to his feet, Kit threw himself at Hudson. Connie slammed into both of them, and Kit wrapped an arm around Connie’s neck, pulling him in for a desperate kiss.

Teaser Tuesday

Teaser from #3 of the Dragons of San DeLain

Rage surged through Kit’s veins as a wild, animalistic fury filled him. He caught his breath in shock. Hudson, and that was definitely Hudson’s feelings, was consumed by an intense and deadly anger that radiated from him like a scorching fire that promised to unleash chaos and destruction.

“Holy shit, what just happened?” Kit muttered to himself, because he was positive he’d never felt such anger from Hudson.

A wave of reassurance washed over Kit through the bond, emanating from Connie like a warm embrace. However, it was quickly followed by Hudson’s intense anger. Kit couldn’t be sure if the reassurance was directed towards him, but he assumed it was.

Hudson oddly enough seemed… almost disconnected? That really didn’t describe the feeling he got from Hudson. The bond was still there, and Hudson hadn’t shut it down, but it was almost as if whatever feelings coming through were almost… secondary?

Like they were Hudson’s but not Hudson’s. Which made absolutely no sense, because of course it was Hudson… unless what Kit was feeling was actually from the dragon.

Suddenly possessiveness flared along the lines of the bond, along with a primitive feeling of… devotion? Commitment? Dedication? Along with covetousness, cravings, eagerness, and greediness. It glimmered and pulsed with each emotion that passed through it.

The possessiveness was visible as the bond tightened and constricted, while devotion and commitment were shown through its steady, unwavering glow. The bond also revealed eagerness and greediness, flickering in anticipation of what was to come.

And at the center of it all was love, radiating with a brilliant brightness that seemed to envelop everything around it. Kit looked on, breathless, as he witnessed the power of this love connecting them.

Love?

Kit gulped.

It was a love so pure and all-consuming, it was almost blinding to behold. The three of them had been dancing around with that for a while now, but there was no denying what he was feeling was from Hudson’s dragon. Eternal love—something so big and so vast, Kit could barely wrap his human mind around it.

The bond between them pulsed with love and understanding, like two puzzle pieces finally fitting together perfectly.

Wonder flowed along the bond too from Connie, along with much of the same feelings he was picking up from Hudson. Wonder and joy, plus warmth. Yup, that was his Connie. Although Connie’s feelings didn’t seem to be quite so primal, so maybe Connie was still in his human form.

The anger slowly bled away and contentment invaded Kit.

Teaser Tuesday

Teaser from #3 Dragons of San DeLain

Connie’s heart skipped a beat as he understood what he was seeing. But quickly he shut that down before it passed along the bond toward Kit. That was the last thing their mate needed, especially when he was locked up underground.

From the corner of his eye, he saw Beckett and Audrey also take to the sky.

The three of them would handle whatever else might come their way, while Connie stayed in his human form. Someone had to be able to give orders if needed until Hudson changed back. He watched his mate fly to intercept the missile coming directly at their home.

There was a bone chilling roar, then a huge line of fire. Within seconds there was a massive explosion, but it was still far enough away that it did not cause problems.

What if they hadn’t spotted that missile in time? What if it had managed to hit its target? While it was doubtful any of their dragons would’ve have been killed, they could’ve been hurt. Badly. They could lose body parts as easily as anyone else.

And he didn’t want to think what it could have done to Kit, who was not a dragon. Baring his teeth, he answered Hudson’s rage-filled roar with one of his own.

Someone would pay for this.
