Wednesday Briefs - Loving the God of Love

Welcome to the Wednesday Briefers flash group. The short stories have a maximum of a 1000 word count plus links at the bottom to the other flashers. The prompts for this week are going to be geared toward Valentine's Day:

"Love makes the world go round"

or use hearts

or Cupid

or "If ever I would leave you..."

or "I give to you and you give to me.... true love..."

or anything having to do with Valentine's day and candy!

Loving the God of Love

Cupid, otherwise known as Cam, fired his last arrow of the evening. Today was Valentine’s Day and he’d been working non-stop for the last two weeks, making humans fall in love. Turning away from the last couple, he blew out a breath. Here he was, the one and only God of Erotic Love, and he’d forgotten to get his own mate a Valentine’s gift. What the hell was wrong with him?

“Stupid. Just plain stupid.”

Cupid hoisted his quiver over his shoulder, folded his pure white wings, and disappeared into the shadows. Closing his eyes, he allowed his human form to take shape. Gone was the innocent, curly-top youthful-looking boy. In his place stood a smoldering, sexy human with shoulder-length, streaky blond hair, turquoise eyes, and a body to die for.

“What the hell am I going to do?”

Cam stood on what was known as The Strip in downtown Las Vegas, looking around. The stores were picked clean, and trying to find anything that even resembled a flower at this point would take an act of the gods. He was totally screwed.

His mate, Jeff Mayfield, was going to kill him, and he didn’t blame Jeff one bit. Jeff owned The Palms in Las Vegas, so he could order up a special dinner, maybe check the shops at the casino to see what hadn’t been picked over. Cam grunted as he walked to his car, ashamed of himself. Yeah, he’d really gone out of his way, hadn’t he?

Even his friend Mo, better known as Morpheus, God of Dreams, had repeatedly warned him time was getting away, and he hadn’t listened. He and Jeff hadn’t been mated long, and Jeff deserved better. But, by Hades, what did you get someone who had more than enough money, was now immortal, and wielded power as easily as he brushed his teeth?

“Loser,” he mumbled, driving toward home. “You are such a loser.”

The infamous Cupid had really dropped the ball this time. He parked in Jeff’s personal garage and made his way to their private entrance. Fuck, he was so screwed.

* * * *

“He’s here, boss.” Zygi, Head of Security at The Palms, held his cell as he watched Cam walk toward the elevators on the video feed. “Just parked, as a matter of fact.”

“Thanks, Zygi. Take the rest of the night off and go have fun with Mo. How about the four of us meet up for breakfast at 24/7… say about ten am? That give you enough time in the morning?” Jeff stood and surveyed the room. Everything was… perfect.

“Sounds like a plan. And thanks for the night off. I got some new equipment I want to try out on my boy.”

Jeff laughed. “Just make sure Mo can sit at the table tomorrow.”

“Oh, he will, just not sure how comfortable he’ll be while doing it.” Zygi snorted. “Yours is on his way up, boss. See you tomorrow.”

“Bye.” Jeff disconnected and looked at the room. The lights were on low, soft music played, three dozen red roses waited at the table, his best china was sparkling in the candle light, with a meal waiting to be served. Now all he needed was his lover.

His God of Love needed some loving himself tonight. How often did someone take time to treat Cupid to a special date, offer him flowers and candy, or just take the time to care for the god himself? Making humans fall in love, especially on Valentine’s Day, was Cupid’s job, but had anyone ever treated Cupid to a special Valentine’s Day?

He damn sure planned to.

“Come on, babe, get that fine ass up here so we can start the night.” Jeff’s breath hitched when he heard the door to his penthouse open. Time to get the show on the road.

“Oh dear gods…” Cam stood, staring at the lovely set up.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, Cupid.” Jeff moved closer, gently pushing Cam against the door. His lips teased across Cam’s mouth, a barely there kiss that left his dazed mate groaning for more. He actually managed to still that sharp tongue, no little feat. Many who knew Cam knew how cutting he could be when mad. Ask Zygi.

Cam covered his face with both hands. “I’m such an ass, Jeff. I don’t deserve all this. Gods, I didn’t even get you

Jeff cupped Cam’s face, his thumb tracing Cam’s cheekbone as he placed another gentle kiss on pretty red lips. “Hush. I know how hard you’ve been working, babe. And I had to wonder, has anyone ever done something for Cupid on his special day?

Cam shook his head, eyes wide as he looked around.

Jeff rubbed his erection against his lover, then grabbed Cam by the hand and pulled him toward the table. “Thought not. So, come on in and let me give Cupid his Valentine’s. I ordered all your favorites too. After dinner, we’ll take a dip in the hot tub, then move things on to the bedroom. I have plans for some of those roses.” He stopped and looked at Cam. “Love you, sweetheart.”

Cam eyed the roses on the table. “I believe I can think up a few things to do with those flowers… involving the petals and your cock. Great Zeus, Jeff, this is beautiful. I-I… thank you, babe. You have no idea how… how… moved I am by all this. No one has ever… I love you too. So much.”

“Yeah? Well then, later you can toss my ass on the bed and show me. But for right now, let me take care of you. Later, you can make me scream.” Jeff waved his hand toward the table. “Dinner is served, lover. I hope this is a Valentine’s Day you never forget, my god of Love.”

* * * *

Neither male heard the Hags of Fate giggle with happiness.

Don’t forget to visit the other briefers! Hope you guys enjoyed seeing Cam and Jeff again lol. Since Cam is Cupid, it just seemed to fit.

Welcome Kim Dare

Hey guys! Hope that picture got you in a beachy kind of mood. Trust me, you'll see why shortly. *Grin*

Today I have one of my favorite authors visiting: Kim Dare. Yes, lol, I'm a big fan. I love her BDSM books and own several. If you like BDSM (and she does both human and nonhuman) you really should check her out. For today, she's here to talk about her new release Vanilla Licks.

*Rubs hands together* Oh... and did I mention there's a giveaway too?! :)

Hi Everyone!

Thank you to Michelle for making me so welcome on her blog and giving me the chance to chat about my latest release from Resplendence Publishing—Vanilla Licks.

And, to thank you for joining us, I’m giving away two free copies of an e-book from my backlist or coming soon list. More details about the book and the giveaway are at the end of the post.

Bare Bum Bay

Picture a luxury beach-front resort. The sun is shining. The waves are rolling in. Golden sand. Blue seas. A gentle breeze.

Imagine men – handsome, happy and wearing very little clothing. They’re laughing and joking with each other, enjoying the heat of the sun on their bodies and checking each other out. They’ve all come to this holiday destination to be surrounded by men who appreciate other men. Most of them are kinky, all of them are horny.

Where have you mentally placed this wonderful place? Is it in the middle of the Caribbean? Or maybe you’ve set it on a wonderful Mediterranean island?

It’s more than likely you haven’t put it in the same place I did when I sat down to write my Sun, Sea and Submission series.

Pendragon Bay is located in south Wales. (That’s next door to England and part of the UK, in case you’re wondering.)

Since it’s my version of Wales, I’m allowing myself a good slice of artistic licence and setting the stories during the hottest summer on record.

We have lovely beaches here. And occasionally the weather really is quite pleasant. Honest!

More importantly, I grew up here and while, to my knowledge, there isn’t a luxury, kinky, gay resort around here, I do have some wonderful memories of hot summers on the beach.

There’s one beach in particular, an unofficial nudist beach that naturists have been using for years, which is affectionately called Bare Bum Bay.

That’s the beach I picture when I’m writing this series.

The newest instalment was so much fun to write. I can just imagine the characters walking along paths I’ve travelled along ever since I was old enough to walk.

There’s a little bit of Penarth in there, some influence of Porthcawl, a touch of Barry Island snuck in too. I know those place names probably don’t mean anything to you, but they’re all close to my heart.

So, if you choose to take a peek inside the series, you might like to think more about a British beach than a palm tree laden tropical island. On the other hand, you might not like to do that at all. If you want to transplant the guys to your fantasy sea shore, that’s cool too.

And, whatever geography does to them, you can count upon it that Fulton and Darrell will still be the same guys.

Darrell will still work in an ice cream parlour called Vanilla Licks. He’ll still be a shameless flirt who likes to joke about leather, but who’s never tried it for real.

Fulton will still come to Pendragon Bay to give a whole series of master classes on various kinks. He’ll still be stern, dominant and hard-core enough to scare away most guys.

And, they’ll still have to find a way through the process of getting together, getting kinky and finding their own idiosyncratic happy ending.

I’d love it if you’d join them for the ride.

Here’s the blurb for Vanilla Licks:

Situated just along the beach from Pendragon Bay Hotel, Vanilla Licks is the most popular ice cream shop for miles. Its success is at least partly down to Darrell—the cute guy who works behind the counter and flirts shamelessly with all the customers.

Fulton’s an experience dom visiting the hotel to give a series of master classes on a whole host of kinky topics. Fulton doesn’t flirt. On the rare occasions that he speaks at all, it’s to give orders—which he expects to be obeyed. When Darrell catches his eye at the ice cream shop, vanilla is the last flavor on either of their minds.

Darrell is very good at joking about not being vanilla, but can he deal with a dominant who takes his BDSM seriously?

You can find out more about the story, read an excerpt or buy the book by clicking here.

And here are the details for that giveaway:

Leave a comment on this post by Sunday 16th February and you’ll be entered into the hat for a chance to win two of my backlist or coming soon titles. One winner will be chosen at random to receive two e-books of their choice. The only book you won’t be able to pick is Vanilla Licks.

About Kim Dare:

Kim Dare is a twenty-nine year old, full time writer from Wales (UK). First published in 2008, she has since released close to eighty BDSM erotic romance titles. While most of Kim’s stories follow male/male relationships, she also writes about characters that enjoy male/female, female/male (female dominant), female/female and all kinds of ménage relationships. Kim’s titles have included contemporary stories, fairytale re-tellings, vampires, time travelers, werewolves and werelions—not to mention the occasional wereduck.

Regardless of the gender of her characters or the different genres they inhabit, from short stories to full-length novels, there are three things Kim always wants to give her characters—kink, love, and a happy ending.

Welcome Tali Spencer

Hello everyone! Today I have fellow author and good friend Tali Spencer visiting me! She's here to talk about her latest release Dangerous Beauty from Resplendence Press.
So, come on in, grab a seat, and join us while Tali spins her tale of a crazy old king. :)

Tali Spencer Guest Blog post Dangerous Beauty – Psycho King

Thanks, Michelle, for having me over again for a visit. I’m promoting my newest release, Dangerous Beauty, a M/M fantasy romance, but first I want to talk about something fun. My villain.

Every novel needs a good villain, and sometimes that villain is right under the character’s nose.

One of the themes in my new novel, Dangerous Beauty, is family—in particular main character Endre’s dysfunctional relationship with his father. Readers of Captive Heart, the first book in the series, already know King Lukacz is unstable. Readers of this book will realize it within the first two chapters. The man Endre struggles so valiantly to love and honor is out of his mind.

Endre and his family are imperial captives of the Uttoran emperor. Although they’re not living in a dungeon, they aren’t happy and King Lukacz undertakes a plot to gain their freedom. Endre is central to that plot because he serves as his father’s messenger and is pretending to be a lover of men so he can meet his contact openly at Uttoran parties. Only one problem: Endre really is interested in men and his activity releases long buried desires—desires his father would abhor.

Over the course of the book, the evidence of his father’s lost grip on reality piles up until even Endre can’t sugarcoat the truth. Here are a few things about dear old Dad Endre should have picked up on:

10. Arranges inappropriate marriages for his children without telling them.

9.  Mumbles a lot about being betrayed by ungrateful children.

8.  Tells his son to submit to unwanted suitors because HE’s short of cash.

7.  Writes long, incendiary letters to the man who conquered his country, complaining about the luxurious villa, too much good food, and the sexual habits of his captors.

6.  Decides those he loves would be better off dead than as captives, but never talks about killing himself.

5.  Thinks nothing about having his son wear a ball-strangling cock cuff for carrying messages.

4.  Enjoys forcing his attentions on all women in sight, because he can.

3.  Strangles his daughter because a man he doesn’t approve of wants her.

2.  Sends his gay son to a monastery to be blinded and have his tongue torn out.

1.  Thinks having his heir kidnap the princess of a powerful neighbor is a GOOD idea.

With that background, here’s the blurb and a fun excerpt from Dangerous Beauty. Though part of a series, the novel stands perfectly well on its own.

Blurb:
Once the Kordeun family ruled Sebboy…now they are imperial captives of the Uttoran Emperor. Devout and studious, Endre Kordeun loves his family and will do anything to free them, even if that means pretending he’s gay so he can pass messages to his father’s shady allies. With his golden good looks and a beautiful male courtesan posing as his lover, Endre finds Uttor’s decadent society more than willing to believe his ruse.

But when a passionate kiss from a dark, gorgeous man unlocks feelings Endre had been hiding even from himself, lies start to unravel. Arshad, prince of Tabar, is Endre’s match in every way…including a shared love for science and celestial mechanics. Going forward with his charade will be dangerous, and not only because he might be discovered. In that event, even his own father would kill him. How much is Endre willing to risk for love?

Excerpt:
He’d just finished washing himself when the door opened and his father entered. His father never gave him the courtesy of knocking first. Endre looked up in surprise because always before the old man had waited until morning instead of greeting his return.

White-haired, his handsome face bearing deeper lines than he’d had when he’d ruled Sebboy as king, Lukacz lifted the book and retrieved the message. He fingered the folded paper before speaking. “Did you read it?”

“I never read them.”

Endre threw aside his towel and quickly wrapped a length of fresh linen between his legs and about his hips. Early on, he had looked at one of the messages and found it incomprehensible, written in code. He didn’t even have a clear idea what his father’s communications were meant to accomplish. The one time he’d balked and demanded to be told before setting foot in another Uttoran house, his father had accused him of betraying him just like his sister had, capitulating to the enemy, abandoning his country and his family—of abandoning his god. There had been no way to reason with his father, no way for Endre to heal the breach except to vow his love, prove his obedience. Things had improved after that. His mother had stopped crying, and Imre had stopped scowling at him and saying he’d broken their father’s heart. Things were fine as long as he kept going out at night to meet with Yanni at parties where men had good reason to be alone with other men.

His father’s mouth narrowed. “The paper’s damp.” He sniffed it. “This time you spilled seed, didn’t you? Is that pretty pagan whore becoming more attractive?”

“No. Another man found me alone and took advantage. I had my clothes on.” Endre kept his voice steady. There was no point in lying because someone, either the guards or whatever shadowy figure Yanni reported to, might inform his father of the truth.

“But you spilled. Like a whore.”

“You think I wanted to?” He’d known his father would find out, hadn’t he? Known it would come to sick accusations. “He took me by surprise, treated me the way he would any other man at such a party! What are men supposed to think, seeing me in such places, with such people? You’re making a joke of me. I don’t want to do any of this!”

“Keep your voice down!”

His father’s iron tone stopped Endre cold. The Sebboyan royal family was captive, even in this, their supposed home. His father’s ice blue eyes blazed with a warning he knew better than to dismiss.

He lowered his voice. “I’m not going back. Send Imre next time.”

“To what purpose? No one will believe it of him. You, they already believe. You’ve gotten good at the part. Indeed, if you’re moaning and spilling among them, they’ll believe you all the more. Have you given them your cock yet or sucked one of theirs?”

Fuck you. He couldn’t say that to his father, though. His father and his king. A man he honored and loved. Pain that Lukacz should think so little of him as to suggest he would offer himself as a whore to his country’s conquerors knotted his gut. “No. I just go there, pretend with Yanni, get the message and come back.” Until this night, that had been his pattern.

“You won’t need to do this much longer,” his father said, his coldness softening to something warmer. Lukacz paused to assess his son’s body. “Don’t let them use you. They would do so just to shame me. If they fuck my children, the way their emperor fucks your sister, they fuck me. They spit on our family, on me. They tarnish my reputation. Remember that, and our god’s law.”

“Always, sire,” he said.

“Have you prayed today?”

He had, this morning with the priest, as was his habit. “Yes.”

“Do so again. Now that you have exposed your weakness by allowing one of those creatures to rub against you and spilling your seed, your soul is even more soiled than your flesh. Your shame stains us all. Expunge yourself with an hour of prayer for forgiveness.”

“Yes, Father.”

“Tomorrow, come to my study after you perform your morning penance. And visit your mother and sisters. We will all of us soon welcome the end of our ordeal.”

His father tucked the folded paper into his jacket collar and left the room without waiting for an answer. Everyone around him knew the only answer possible was obedience.

Dangerous Beauty is available at Resplendence Publishing and also at AllRomance.

The Making of Revelations: How it came to be

The idea was born many years ago. Over forty, actually. When I was a teenager. Back then, it didn’t have a name, and it had no real shape. But I knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to tell the story of Judas Iscariot. The trouble was I didn’t know how.

What drew me to Judas, is probably what you’re asking yourself, and that’s a valid question. Ask anyone else who Judas is and you’ll get answers that are probably all variations on a theme of betrayal. I’m not sure exactly when I began to question that, but I do know that when I saw Jesus Christ Superstar performed live back in 1971 (or thereabouts), I had an epiphany regarding him. I saw him, not as the bad guy as often portrayed, but someone who not only believed in Jesus but was willing to do what he needed him to do. For without Judas’ “betrayal” of Jesus, the story would not have worked out the way it did. It needed to happen that way. And if you read the Gospel of Judas, he was the only apostle who trusted Jesus enough to do that for him. Gives one food for thought, doesn’t it?

Very interesting, but where’s the story, I wondered. Was I going to take an historical perspective, research the man and his life? Easier said than done, especially back then. We had no Internet. We didn’t even have computers. Research was all done through books. Libraries had card catalogs, a far cry from today when you can log onto your library website and browse their selection, then request what you want. So I looked and I found bupkus (nothing). I had the Bible, of course, but it tends to be limited on information, as well as a bit biased.

So nothing was written, and I let it go, as my thoughts formulated in the back of my head. In the meantime, I was reading, watching… and learning. King of Kings was my first Biblical movie, and I loved it. Jeffrey Hunter’s portrayal of Jesus is very moving, and I was very enamored of the film. Jesus Christ Superstar – I think I know all the words, I’ve listened so many times. I liked the stage version, but the first film not so much.

Besides watching these things and others, I read. Christopher Moore’s Lamb, The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal. What a fabulous book! I loved it! So much I bought the special edition. And I read The Gospel of Judas! Forty years ago I’d never heard of such a thing. Of course I read the DaVinci Code, and watched the movie. And everything began to percolate inside my head…

Then one day it happened. Judas spoke to me, for the first time. And I simply began to write it down, not knowing what he might say, or where his story might lead. It turned out to be quite the story and took me on quite the journey, and led to places that I didn’t expect it to. If he’d have spoken forty years ago, I would not have been ready to receive his message. But my life up until the moment that I first heard him speak prepared me. And the result is Revelations.

The original title was Kyrie Eleison, a tribute to the Mister Mr. song, Kyrie. Kyrie eleison means Christ, have mercy on us. But then fellow author Marie Sexton, who was reading Kyrie for me at the time, suggested a simpler title. A better title. Revelations. So Revelations it became.

I know there are people who will not like Revelations, and by extension, me. People who will not see the message it carries, only that it does not follow what they believe. But ultimately, no matter what you believe, Revelations is a story of love. Love is the message, and love is something that binds us all together.

Revelations is love.

Thank you for having me here, enjoy your day!

Blurb:

Judas has never been very popular, not in any incarnation that he and Jesus and the others have lived through. But he doesn't care about that. All he cares about is following the instructions of God as set forth in the script that they follow. And Jesus. For Judas has secretly loved the son of God for over two thousand years.

But now he decides that enough is enough, and he's tired of watching Jesus die far too early, and for what? This time Judas is determined to see that Jesus lives a long and happy life, no matter what price he has to pay to accomplish it...no matter if he has to make a deal with the devil himself.

Revelations is a story of what could be, told by those who play it out, time after time after time, unbeknownst to the rest of mankind. They've come back again, for yet another round. But this time is going to be different.

Excerpt:
Prologue: God

It's not always easy to sit on the sidelines and watch what is happening, to resist the urge to intervene in his best interest. My son's that is. Jesus. But I do so, because I know it's for his own good. As well as for the good of mankind. I can't let my concerns as his father override my vested interest in the fate of man. But sometimes that is easier said than done.

This morning I am not alone. Someone else is with me, someone with his own agenda, although we are not as diametrically opposed as some would imagine us to be. Good and evil aren't the simplistic concepts some would portray them as being—there are more grey areas there than you might think. And rightly so.

He smirks. Too much for my taste, I have to admit, but sometimes he does have his moments, and he too has a part to play in what is happening in the world of men. Someone needs to fill the role of the villain, after all.

The stage is being set for the third act, the scripts have been handed round, and the actors are taking their places. Will this time end any differently than the others? That depends on my son, on Jesus. I'm thinking this will be the time when he'll make the change.

"He'll change nothing," Lucifer interjects, although I've asked him nothing, certainly not inquired as to his opinion.

I glance at him. He's dressed to within an inch of his life, and wears the most ridiculous sunglasses I've ever seen. I decide not to comment on his fashion sense. "I think he might, this time. I think he's ready for change."

Lucifer snorts. "It's been two thousand years, and neither one has exactly caught on yet. Why should this time be any different?"

"Care to put your money where your mouth is?"

He eyes me carefully. "I would, but you see you have this whole mystic omnipotent God thing going on. Personally, I don't care for those odds."

I arch an eyebrow. "I may be omnipotent, but Jesus does have free will and he does possess the ability to make his own decisions. You think I'd stack the deck in my son's favor? Just to win a bet with you?"

"Let's say I'm taking no chances." He smiles. "Tell you what, though—give me free rein. Let me do what I want, and you not say anything or do anything to interfere with me? As far as they're concerned, that is."

I open my mouth to object, he hastily interjects. "No killing, I swear to it."

That's better. I still have some measure of control over the serpent.

"So be it." I agree, turning my attention back to where it had been, to my son. I'm smirking now. Openly.

O ye of little faith, watch and learn.

Author Bio
Julie Lynn Hayes was reading at the age of two and writing by the age of nine and always wanted to be a writer when she grew up. Two marriages, five children, and more than forty years later, that is still her dream. She blames her younger daughters for introducing her to yaoi and the world of M/M love, a world which has captured her imagination and her heart and fueled her writing in ways she'd never dreamed of before. She especially loves stories of two men finding true love and happiness in one another's arms and is a great believer in the happily ever after. She lives in St. Louis with her daughter Sarah and two cats, loves books and movies, and hopes to be a world traveler some day. While working a temporary day job, she continues to write her books and stories and reviews, which she posts in various places on the internet. Her family thinks she is a bit off, but she doesn't mind. Marching to the beat of one's own drummer is a good thing, after all.  Her published works can be found at Dreamspinner Press, and MuseitUp Publishing, and she has also begun to self-publish at various places on the Internet.
