Thursday Book Recommendation

These are books I’ve read and really enjoyed. Most of what I talk about will probably be paranormal/scifi but not always. Although it’s rare, I do read some contemporary.

This week is: Never Trust A Guy With Fangs (Covens of Eaton Falls Book 1) by Mia Monroe

Blurb:

Waking up in my enemy’s bed is just the start of my problems.

The first rule of being a witch: don’t trust the vampires. My entire life has been filled with stories of our warring covens. We tenuously coexist in the New England city of Eaton Falls, where the locals think we’re merely the stuff of fairy tales and horror movies.

We live life as the mortals do, keeping our magic behind the scenes. Everything is fine until the day I wake up inside notorious Eaton Manor, in the bed of none other than the sexy and terrifying head vampire, Augustus Rainier, with no memory of how I got there.

His presence makes my skin tingle and my heart beat just a little faster. I know the inherent danger of associating with violent, often unpredictable vampires. I’ve got bigger problems, though, when I discover my coven is in hiding, leaving me on my own.

When danger shows up at Eaton Manor, it becomes clear it’s not only the witches in trouble. Both covens need to decide: do we fight separate battles against the same enemy or break every rule in our history and join forces to defeat a common foe? The other major question—will possessive and domineering Augustus let me go when this is over?

Never Trust A Guy With Fangs is an MM paranormal romance. It is book one in the Covens of Eaton Falls series featuring a rebellious twink of a witch with eternal optimism, an edgy vampire with a strong mistrust of witches, two stubborn and quirky covens, a threat from an unknown enemy, and a dangerous desire that could tear apart tradition, all in a beautiful New England backdrop. It is not a standalone.

Tuesday Teaser

Did y'all know Riding the Tide was actually based off a commercial I saw (it's been several years ago now).

It’s about a guy sitting at a pool with a couple of friends. He’s saying he’s never going to get married. The next shot of him is him buying an engagement ring. Then this guy and his wife say they’re never having kids. The next shot is of him holding his wife’s hand while she’s in labor. And it goes on and on.

For everything he says he’s not going to do, he ends up doing. The commercial ends him with him saying he’s never going to let go. So basically, this is the premise behind Riding the Tide! For everything Marcus says he isn’t going to do, he does.

Teaser:

“There’s nothing out there. Maybe it was a trick of the moonlight.” Blair nodded, as if that settled the whole matter. “Moonlight. Nothing but the moonlight. Certainly no person.”

The band picked then to start playing. Blair flinched then glanced back over his shoulder. The boat lurched, he stumbled, and then dropped his drink into the water.

“Oh, come on.” Didn’t that just figure? He wished he never stepped foot on this boat. Now that his breathing calmed somewhat, he began to question his foolish reaction.

Of course there was nothing out there. He’d freaked himself out for nothing. Jeez. Maybe the first thing he needed to do when he got home was visit the eye doctor, because obviously he was seeing things.

As he turned away from the railing, he saw something out of the corner of his eye. His heart rate spiked as he spun back. One of the dolphins whistled. Out there in the distance something answered, a sharp trilling sound. Only the answering trill didn’t sound like the dolphin.

And then even the dolphins disappeared.

As he glared out over the moonlit ocean, he swore he saw a huge tail slap the surface of the water… right where he thought he saw somebody. Exactly where he thought he saw that person. Unnerved, he turned away from the railing.

Thursday Book Recommendation

These are books I’ve read and really enjoyed. Most of what I talk about will probably be paranormal/scifi but not always. Although it’s rare, I do read some contemporary.

This week is: Demons Do It Better: A Hidden Species Novel by Louisa Masters

Blurb

I work for Lucifer. Only, it’s not as cool and satanic as it sounds.

The truth is, I’m an admin assistant who applied for a job that sounded kind of interesting and ended up working for the Community of Species Government. I’m the only human in the office, and basically I ride herd on a team of rambunctious shifters and demons.

I also spend a lot of time avoiding Gideon Bailey, the demon I had a one-night stand with right before I took this job. He hates me, and I really want to avoid being murdered. But I’ve been offered a promotion that will mean working with him, so we’re both going to have to get over it.

Plus, people are going missing. Pregnant people. And the word is that someone is dabbling in genetic experimentation. Putting a stop to that is more important than the sexual tension Gideon and I have been ignoring… isn’t it?

Tuesday Teaser - Beneath the Surface

This teaser is from Beneath the Surface (The Deep Blue Sea Book 1)

Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XFK2FBV

This year for vacation, Kannon and his dad rented a boat and guide to take them to the reefs around the Seychelles. This was by no means the first time he’d gone snorkeling. Growing up along the California coast guaranteed Kannon was comfortable in the water.

The guide had warned them to stay together, but Kannon had other ideas. Besides, he wasn’t going that far off. After investigating the colorful reef fish and interesting coral formations—and seeing his dad was distracted—Kannon slowly but steadily wandered off on his own. An outcrop of rocks covered in algae caught his eye, and he went to investigate.

Many of the multihued native fish swam past him, curious as to what he was. It was funny how they circled him. Kannon held his hand out. A few braver fish darted in, nibbled at his fingers, and then swam off. God, what a rush it was. Nothing was better than this.

He drew closer to the outcrop, surprised it was much deeper than he’d first thought. Huh, not an outcrop, but the mouth of an underwater cave. Cool. From a distance it appeared to be nothing more than oddly shaped rocks. Peering inside, he was unable to see past the murky blackness within.

Curious, he reached his hand out, stretching toward the mouth of the cave. His scalp prickled. A tingle washed through him. The water around him caressed his body as he hung weightlessly, staring at the cave entrance as his dick swelled in his trunks. What the…?

It wasn’t as if he made a habit of getting horny while diving, so what the hell? Torn between desire and unease, he hovered in the tropical water. Chills chased up his spine, and goose bumps broke out over his body.

His heart rate sped up—not a good thing underwater—and the feeling of being watched crept across his nerves. Something was in there, and his mind screamed at him to get away even as the urge to reach inside nearly overwhelmed him.

Kannon’s body swayed dangerously closer. His nipples ached as the water flowed past, and he had to force himself not to whimper as need struck him. He jerked back. There’s something waiting for me, just waiting for me to reach in so it can... what? So it can do what?

Jesus, he needed to get a serious grip on his imagination, and crap, he had to surface too. Lack of oxygen made the decision for him. All this panicking on his part had used up his air—stupid of him.

He surfaced and shook the hair out of his eyes. Wow, is that our boat way over there? Oh man, Dad’s going to kill me. Worried about the fit his dad was going to have, he was totally unprepared for the strange guy who popped up next to him, although “guy” might have been overly nice.

Kannon yelped, but the dude across from him just smiled. The androgynous, fey face wasn’t quite human. The long pointed ears were a good indication, as was the glimpse of sharp little teeth.

Oh, and the gills at its neck.

Azure blue hair floated in the water around shapely shoulders and cobalt blue eyes stared back at him. It was a visage that was hauntingly beautiful, otherworldly, and a tad disconcerting. The creature smiled slightly as if he agreed. It—whatever it was—scared the bejesus out of him.

Then it reached out and dragged Kannon under the water.

This week is: One Week with His Stepbrother (A Daddy Tales Book Book 3) by Kelex

Blurb:

JJ Whitehurst has made billions for his clients—and millions for himself—over the years. An unapologetic workaholic, he finds solace in his career. It’s easier to evade personal entanglements when he’s always working. Then along comes a forced vacation and the keys to his father’s Santa Monica beach house, neither of which he wants, and the terrifying thought of that much free time, alone, causes him to reach out for company.

Rory McMillian’s first night as an escort brings him face-to-face with the daddy of his dreams. All six-foot-five and 200 pounds of muscle is made for sin. When his client can’t let go, one night turns into one week… and by the end, an offer is made.

Be JJ’s kept boy.

The proposal is tempting yet Rory refuses. He won’t live as some shameful secret, no matter how drawn he is to JJ. Yet, as weeks pass, he can’t stop thinking of the opportunity he tossed aside.

Fate steps in and compels the pair to face one another again—but circumstances have changed. They conceal their knowledge of one another and the simmering attraction they both still feel.

But how long can they before their desire boils over?

This 96,000 MM Romance is filled with sweet heat, a demanding daddy, and lots of lingerie. If that's your thing, this might be the story for you.

Bound by War update

No Tuesday Teaser today... instead an announcement!

The last book in the Harvest Young series is finished! Bound by War came in close to 88K. And here I thought Laken's book would be the smallest of all of them.

WRONG!

It's been sent to edits now. We still have to get through that, proofreading, and writing the blurb before it's released into the wild lol. But it's coming!

Those of you who are in my author group know what a mess 2021 has been for me. Between the cancer and radiation, dealing with the carotid artery, and the thyroid biopsy, it's been hell on wheels. It's taken a year to get Bound by War written, but I believe the wait will be worth it. I'm very happy with how it turned out!

Thursday Book Recommendation (on a Friday lol)

These are books I’ve read and really enjoyed. Most of what I talk about will probably be paranormal/scifi but not always. Although it’s rare, I do read some contemporary.

This week is: Bound to Him by Ki Brightly and M.D. Gregory

Blurb:

The Billionaire Who Wins at All Costs

Texan Alton Bouchard always gets what he wants. There’s not much money can’t buy, and for everything else he bulldozes his way to victory. The moment he sees Noah Divine, the heir of the Divine Conglomerate, Alton knows he wants him. Alton digs up enough dirt to scare Noah’s father, and before Noah realizes what is happening, he’s contracted to be married to Alton for six months.

The Artist Minted by Money

Noah Divine wants nothing to do with his family’s business. His dream to be a painter has made him his father’s number-one disappointment. When he is asked to marry Alton to smooth over the dark splotches on his family’s reputation, Noah can’t see a solution to the problem except to comply, if only to keep life normal for his younger siblings.

The Marriage Plot

Alton has a plan—a short marriage to Noah, which will give him business as well as personal opportunities. The hitch is that he doesn’t expect Noah to be so pure and innocent, especially since he’d grown up in the moneyed world of Vert Island. Noah wants to hate Alton, but he discovers there is more to the billionaire than he shows. As they navigate their arrangement, they find their feelings for each other grow deeper than they anticipated. Once six months is over, their lives will go back to the way they were before the wedding. But what if they don’t want to be alone again? Can a marriage started with a contract ever become more?

At the beginning of Bound to Him, Alton has a complete lack of morals, but never fear, Noah wins him over, and there is a happily ever after.

Tuesday Teaser (on a Wednesday lol) Bound by War

~This will be the last excerpt from Bound by War. The female having final meal with Torin and Laken is called Veri. She is a Ne Reynian warrior who is friends with Torin.

Torin led Veri to the sitting area and offered her a glass of Akdova. He picked up a tall bottle that held a pale golden liquid. “It’s good.”

He poured it into a glass as he explained it was a popular Tah’Narian drink. “It has a light and delicate taste. Here.”

“Thank you,” Veri said taking the glass. “Mmm, this is nice. Not overpowering.” She snickered as she sat down in an overstuffed chair. Torin sat on the couch across from her. “Not like Blishue bloodwine, huh?”

“Excuse me? Blood… what?” Laken yelled from the kitchen.

“Bloodwine,” Veri called back.

Laken joined them in the sitting area with his glass of Akdova. “Final meal will be ready shortly. Okay, so, I’m almost scared to ask, but what is Blishue bloodwine?”

“A full-bodied alcoholic drink. It’s often used to celebrate victories.” Torin sipped his Akdova. “Bloodwine is highly intoxicating, to the point that most non-Blishues are incapable of tolerating it.”

“Oh, really?” Laken scowled at Torin as he sat down.

“As with many Blishue foods and beverages, it’s not for the faint of heart,” Veri said.

Now Laken scowled at Veri. “Oh, really?”

Veri pointed at Torin. “That one had a flask of it, and one night he shared it with me and Dossi. This was when he was still able to meet with the resistance. Trust me when I tell you that small flask was enough to get me, Dossi, and Torin stinking drunk.”

“You and Dossi were drunk. I, being a Blishue, was merely buzzed.” Torin sniffed.

Veri crossed her arms over her chest. “Uh-huh. You couldn’t figure out how to unzip your pants so you could piss.”

“At least I still remembered how to walk, unlike you two,” Torin pointed out.

“It was a great night,” Veri sighed dreamily. “There was much laughter.”

“There was,” Torin agreed.

Laken glanced at the two of them. “Not sure I should ask this, but hey, why not, right? What’s bloodwine made of?”

“Ah, that’s a closely guarded Blishue secret.” Torin’s smile was slightly evil. “But I will tell you it has fermented blood and sugar.”

Laken crinkled his nose. “Holy shit, it seriously has blood in it?”

“Of course.”

“Of course he says. Blood from what? Or who? And also? Gross.”

“I can answer that!” Veri jumped in before Torin could open his mouth. “He’s going to tell you that it’s the blood of his enemies.”

Torin nodded.

“Oh, good grief.” Laken sat his drink down. “Yeah, I think I’ll stick to non-bloody drinks.”

“Except for the taste, bloodwine isn’t that bad,” Veri said.

“Just so you know, that makes absolutely no sense.” Then Laken pursed his lips. “Except in connection with anything Blishue, then yeah, I guess it does make sense.”

Veri laughed again. “Very true.”
