Thursday Book Recommendation

These are books I’ve read and really enjoyed. Most of what I talk about will probably be paranormal/scifi but not always. Although it’s rare, I do read some contemporary.

This week is: Devil May Fall: A Dark MM Sci-Fi Mafia Enemies to Lovers Romance (The Devils of Vitality) by Chani Lynn Feener

Blurb:

A Devil of Vitality always courts chaos.

Aneski Kendricks wants to know what happened to his brother

And why he was so brutally tossed aside by the one person who should have stuck by him after Russ’s death. It took three years of hard work climbing the ladder to gain leadership of the Shepard gang, but he's finally in a position to demand answers. Even from the devil himself. Too bad the devil and the man he used to all but worship are one and the same. Aneski's plan has always been to get revenge, and not just for his brother, though that's what he tells his friends. He wants to know what happened to Russ, true, but he also wants to know why he was abandoned. If only revenge was as easy as it sounded. Once he’s got Flix where he wants him, it should be, but Ani’s old emotions keep getting in the way. Will his pent-up desire cost him his last shred of decency? What did it say about him that he could still want the man who possibly murdered his brother?

Flix Fulmini is a Runner by trade.

As the official Runner/Fixer of the Brumal Mafia, he's got sneaking around and secret-keeping down to an art form. Aneski is just a name on a long list of them he’s withholding information from, and out of all those names, he’s the last person Flix feels threatened by. Which is why it's so shocking when he's kidnapped on Vail University campus and wakes up chained to a wall drenched in ice water. Even more surprising is realizing who his captor is. Three years ago, Flix left Aneski behind, but the guy has been holding a grudge ever since. Not to mention the fact he's convinced Flix has something to do with his brother's death, which he isn't entirely wrong about. Flix has been hiding more than a few things, and for good reason, but when Aneski sinks his claws into him and yanks some of those secrets out, Flix has a tough decision to make. Kill Ani before he can tattle to the Brumal? Or force him to his knees?

Flix originally left for Aneski's own good, but now that he's come calling, it's getting harder and harder for him to turn away. Pretty soon, he starts wondering why he should even bother. In the past, Ani was this close to becoming his. Perhaps claiming him would be the best way to teach him a lesson.

He let Aneski escape him once, but no one messed with a Devil and left with their freedom intact.

Trigger Warning: This is a stand-alone dark romance, which means there are many themes that some might find disturbing. Some of these include, but are not limited to, dub-con, violence, mention of a deceased relative, a grieving main character, two obsessed men who don’t want to admit their feelings, and explicit sexual content not suitable for all readers. Please be sure to read the Author’s Note for a complete list of warnings! HEA guaranteed! Though this book takes place on the same planet as previous books in the series, each of these are considered stand-alone and can be read without having read any of the others.

Teaser Tuesday on a Wednesday

“Wait.” Kit partially twisted in the seat so he could see Beckett better. “Masquerade ball? You did say masquerade ball, right?”

“I did, yes. I’m surprised Hudson hasn’t said anything yet since he and Kage host it, but it’s still several months off. But yes, it’s the event in paranormal society. Invitation only, of course, and the few humans who are in attendance know about us.”

Kit pursed his lips. Why was he just now hearing about this? “It sounds ritzy.”

“A dragon is partly responsible for this event, of course it’s ritzy.”

“Of course.” Kit chuckled.

Teaser Tuesday on a Thursday

Kit and Beckett chitchatted as they drove, Beckett constantly checking the traffic around them.

“So, tell me, how are the wedding plans coming along?”

“It’s still very, very early stages, but I’m looking at a couple of venues. One is the Monarch Hotel.”

“Nice. Their grand ballroom is elegant,” Beckett said as he glanced in the rearview mirror.

“Oh, you know of it?”

“Of course. It’s where the annual masquerade ball is held,” Beckett said.

Thursday Book Recommendation

These are books I’ve read and really enjoyed. Most of what I talk about will probably be paranormal/scifi but not always. Although it’s rare, I do read some contemporary.

This week is:  Purrfectly Peculiar Pixie: Phlox's Story (Perfect Pixie Series Book 5) MJ May

Blurb:

Phlox isn't your typical pixie, and his feisty shifter DNA might be the reason. Recruited by the Magical Usage Council, Phlox—who is now Agent Frost—is a pixie with a mission, and he's not afraid to place himself in mortal danger to eradicate the latest pixie trafficking ring.

Despite being King Lucroy Moony's second-in-command, Leon McMillan's second life has become dangerously monotonous. For a vampire, boredom is as deadly as a stake to the heart. Three hundred years of existing has taken a mental toll—one that will eventually lead Leon into the sun's deadly embrace. Leon needs a life raft; he just never imagined it in the form of a pushy pixie.

Phlox and Leon can't deny their mutual attraction. However, in order for Phlox's mission to succeed, he needs to appear helplessly alone, and Leon's worried stalking isn't aiding that mission.

But soon, the knowledge Phlox and Leon obtain leads to a dangerous, mentally unstable djinn, who has a vicious master holding its leash. Although history claims djinns are all-powerful, indestructible creatures, Phlox and Leon must find the secret to their destruction if they are to save Rutherford Haven's citizens. If they can't, Rutherford Haven will be the first to fall, but it won't be the last.

Phlox will dig his shifter claws into anyone who dares threaten his mate and Leon will tear the heart out of anyone who dares threaten his beloved—his purrrfectly peculiar pixie.

Purrfectly Peculiar Pixie is the fifth and final book in the Perfect Pixie series. The books should be read in order. Purrfectly Peculiar Pixie features an emotionally constipated vampire, a pixie who's far more than he appears, witches and trolls with questionable morals, an alpha werewolf whose time on planet Earth is precariously close to ending, a (questionably) good djinn, an (unquestionably) sinister djinn, an interesting necromancer, and all our previously beloved characters coming together to prove that teamwork really does make the dream work.

Purrfectly Peculiar Pixie also contains homicide of the fantasy kind (no humans were killed in the making of this book) with scenes describing death and killing.

Teaser Tuesday

Kit disconnected the call and slipped his phone back into his pants pocket. This wasn’t the first time Austin had done a book signing at his store, and it probably wouldn’t be the last, but hopefully this one wouldn’t turn into the nightmare the other one had.

Of course, there had been some good that came out of Nox attacking Kit and then mimicking him—Kit had met his mates, so he did have Nox to thank for that.

Unfortunately, Nox’s brother was now stalking him thanks to something that had happened in the past between him and Kit’s papa, Michail.

Teaser Tuesday

This is a teaser from Beyond the Darkness, book 3 in the Dragons of San DeLain

Chapter One – Kit

KIT PLOPPED down in his desk chair and opened his laptop. He needed to check the inventory in his bookstore, especially if he was going to have a book signing by a well-known, local author. But before he even touched his keyboard, his cell phone rang.

Kit fished it out of his pocket, then grinned as he answered. “I was just thinking about you. Was your nose itching?”

“Ha. I thought the saying was that someone was going to come visit you,” Austin replied.

Kit laughed. “Well, aren’t you?”

“Okay, you got me because as a matter of fact, yes, I am.”

This week is:  Hurt Me Not: An MM Urban Fantasy by Davidson King

 Blurb:

As a lieutenant at the Fool’s Pass Fire Department and a single father, Easton Kooper’s life revolves around his children. When he receives an urgent call from his son’s doctor, it upends Easton’s world. Suddenly, barreling into a burning building sounds like a piece of cake. With no idea of what to do or where to turn, he’s never felt more lost. And then in walks the answer he didn’t know he needed: a gorgeous fae with an angelic smile, bearing grand promises to turn the Kooper family’s life right side up again.

Finch knows the rules: don’t fall in love with a human. That’s always been simple enough to follow—at least until the Kooper family. Despite his best efforts, Finch grows attached to Easton and his children…attached enough that he’s tempted to turn his back on the fae and their laws completely.

Before long, the pair must brace themselves as both their worlds seek to destroy them. When the darkness crashes down, it’ll take every ounce of defiance and magic Finch has to keep the Koopers safe. Faced with immovable magic and unspeakable danger, is there really any way Finch and Easton’s love can prevail?

Fighting it is hopeless, but embracing it could mean ruin for them all.

Hurt Me Not is a standalone MM urban fantasy. Guaranteed HEA. No cliffhanger.
