Thursday Book Recommendation

These are books I’ve read and really enjoyed. Most of what I talk about will probably be paranormal/scifi but not always. Although it’s rare, I do read some contemporary.

This week is:  The Blood Boss (Black Veil Series Book 1) by Davidson King

Blurb:

Vampires, mermaids, and witches…oh, my! Black Veil is full of them all, but at the end of the day, it’s The Blood Boss who has the last word. Ever since The Final War, Vampires rule Black Veil, and with The Blood Boss in charge, peace reigns.

Keeping the vampires under control is a task Cain takes seriously. Humans have accepted his rule, and anyone who seeks to destroy his territory is given swift punishment. His promise to keep Black Veil safe comes with great sacrifice and selflessness; never does he dare hope for more in life. Until one day, a man walks through his front door and changes everything.

Jayce has a happy life. His adopted parents love him, he wants for very little, and he lives every day to the fullest. But when a normal evening turns into a nightmare, and Jayce is forced to come face-to-face with The Blood Boss, the world as he knows it feels like a lie.

Then a great secret is revealed, and nothing is what it seems. Cain and Jayce must work together to stop the forces uniting against the vampires. Life and love are in jeopardy as they fight those who seek to destroy them. Can Cain and Jayce keep Black Veil from crumbling into the sea when every attempt to do so seems impossible?

Edge of Darkness is LIVE!!

Blurb:

Sometimes the dragon gods make mistakes.

That’s the best rationale Hudson can come up with. How else can he account for the fact that the one he’s falling in love with is not his fated mate? Getting involved with someone he doesn’t share a soul bond with could be devastating, but Hudson is willing to take the risk. Connie is his and nothing will stand in his way of having him.

Sometimes the dragon gods might be more clever than anyone gives them credit for.

A sassy human stumbles into Hudson and Connie’s life, upsetting their very existence. How can Hudson and Connie have a soul bond to Kit… but not each other? Are the Fates drunk? Or testing them? Dragons are possessive creatures, and that’s before adding in one of them is a thousand-year-old royal in charge of the dragons of San DeLain.

Sometimes it’s better not to question the dragon gods.

But things aren’t always as they appear. Danger stalks the streets of San DeLain in the form of an old enemy once thought dead. What’s real? What isn’t? As Kit struggles with a nightmare from his past, Hudson and Connie try to figure out how to keep their very breakable human in one-piece and happy. Fate is a tricky, tricky thing, and sometimes?
Well, sometimes Hudson has just gotta trust the dragon gods as the darkness edges closer.

This series is the second set of books in the world of San DeLain. There will be three books with the dragons, and this is definitely going to be a slow burn series that stretches out over the three books. Kit, Hudson, and Connie will get their HEA, but I don’t want to rush this relationship.

Since there will be several series based in this world, and each series will build off the last, I highly recommend reading the series in order.

Daemons of San DeLain is first:
Chasing Shadows #1
Shadows Embrace #2
Of Love and Shadows #3

Then the 2nd series is: Dragons of San DeLain
Edge of Darkness #1
Book #2> Coming Soon
Book #3> Coming Soon

Then the 3rd series will be: Gargoyles of San DeLain
Book #1 Anticipated out late 2024
Book #2
Book #3

Thursday Book Recommendation

These are books I’ve read and really enjoyed. Most of what I talk about will probably be paranormal/scifi but not always. Although it’s rare, I do read some contemporary.

This week is:  The First and Last Adventure of Kit Sawyer by S.E. Harmon

Blurb:

In the archaeology community, Christopher “Kit” Sawyer’s family is a legacy. And while he may be a historian, not a treasure hunter, he thinks he does a pretty good job of living up to the Sawyer name. He's a book-smart research fanatic and does his best work at his tidy desk. No fedora and whip for him, if you please—a nice cup of coffee and a comfy chair will do. But decoding an ancient relic soon gives him more adventure than he bargained for.

Unwittingly, he unleashes a force he doesn't know how to control. And now he has to reunite the relic with a powerful Aztec God. The trouble with that? Kit doesn’t where to find the Tlaloc’s temple. No one does, in fact. Finding it could be a discovery for the ages. It could also lead to his untimely death. So...yay? But it’s not like he has a choice. So off to the Mexican jungle he goes.

At least he isn’t going alone.

Ethan Stone, former stepbrother and overall pain in the rump, horns in on the expedition. An experienced archaeologist, he's only coming along at their grandfather's request—which annoys Kit to no end. But he knows Ethan is just the right person to get them through the jungle safely. It’s just too bad someone is trying to beat them to the temple. And he’s willing to do anything to get there first.

Ethan thinks Kit is in over his head. Kit is secretly afraid he just may be right. In manners of archaeology...and manners of the heart….

Fire Court of San DeLain info

  HUDSON’S DRAGON’S

Hudson Redmond – dragon; King of the Fire Court of San DeLain; Hudson’s home is called Redmond Compound. Considered an Ancient by other paranormals mainly because of his age (a thousand years old). His court has 40 members.

Hudson owns a helicopter and can fly it. Did in book #1 Daemons of San DeLain; owns a private jet too which Kage and Austin are using to go to Greece right now

Dragons tend to take what they want, including humans. And yet dragons whined about how their chosen mates often fought them in the beginning.

A dragon can extend a human’s live by giving them their blood like the daemon do. Dragons are born(hatched) not changed, so you can’t turn a human into a dragon. Dragons can only reproduce with another dragon because they lay eggs. In regard to red dragons: History says mates who are not dragon-born can withstand their red dragon fire.

Race, meaning skin color in human form, does not matter. It’s all about the hair color with Reds.

Dragons only need round 5 hrs of sleep, although they can sleep longer. They just don’t need it.

A group of dragons are called a court..

Hudson collects gold/gemstones (esp rubies)

Dragons have control over ALL types of fire. Like a fire in a fireplace, a flame from a candle, and so on.

They can breathe fire in either form (Hudson burned a hunter in Chasing Shadows while in human form)

Dragons are magical creatures, so yes, reds can conjure fire in any form and do magic/spells

All Fire Court has shades of red hair and brown eyes. A trait of red dragons in human form

They also love to fight and are the most powerful of the dragons.

For the average person, life during this time would be very difficult indeed and luck would play a huge part in your ability to survive.) Back then dragons mainly stayed in dragon form and hid from humans

Thursday Book Recommendation

These are books I’ve read and really enjoyed. Most of what I talk about will probably be paranormal/scifi but not always. Although it’s rare, I do read some contemporary.

This week is:  Humbled (Trophy Doms Social Club Book 1) Kate Hawthorne

Blurb:

If I were the kind of man who carved actual notches into my bedpost for every new partner who landed between my sheets, I wouldn’t have a bed left to show for it.

 GRAYSON

I know my way around the bedroom and the playroom, so I should have known that flirting with my older--and dominant--boss was a recipe for disaster. But by the time I realize I'm in over my head with the disgustingly rich and perfectly commanding Robert McAvoy, it's too late to turn back. I want him and I crave the way he makes me feel, even if it's confusing and threatens everything about the life I've built for myself.

I'm not a submissive. I'm not meek and I'm not mild, but when Rob is around it's easy to see the appeal in all of those things.

* * *

Flirting with Grayson was a bad idea from the start, but I've never been the kind of man to shy away from a challenge.

ROB

He's frustrating, but he's brilliant. He's defensive and dominant, but he's desperate to be taken care of. He's perfect for me, and it doesn't matter how long I have to wait for him to see it because he's worth all of my time and more. A back and forth game leads to something far more real than either of us bargained for, and before long Grayson is in my bed and my heart.

I want Grayson on his knees for me, and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get him there, even if that means I have to humble myself before the man who’s too scared to trust me with his heart.

Whatever it takes.

Tuesday Teaser

~Okay,  ya'll, this is the last teaser from Hudson's book. Release date is Sept 22. (Click on the link to preorder)

CHOOSE.

CHOOSE!

One second Hudson was sound asleep, and the next, he was wide-awake and on the verge of transforming into his true form. He wrestled the urge back, but it was a near thing.

By the dragon gods, he was even panting. It had been hundreds of years since he’d come close to losing control. What the hell? But something had nearly caused that loss of control and fear in his chest.

Yes, fear. Along with sadness.

Shoving his sweaty hair back, he glanced at the clock and grimaced. Five fucking o’clock in the morning? The fuck? A memory flirted on the edge of his consciousness, just out of reach and fading quickly.

Hudson desperately tried to grab ahold of it. But like fairy dust, it slipped away no matter how hard he tried to hold on to it. There had been someone standing in the moon’s light, but for some reason, Hudson hadn’t been able to clearly see him.

But the one thing he did know was that it was a man, and he had long, light-brown hair. Dragons of the Fire Court had red hair. Every. Last. One. Of. Them. Whoever he’d been dreaming about, it had not been Connie or any other dragon in his court.

And he’d been circling above the man in his dragon form.

“Fuck!” Connie clutched Hudson’s arm, his claws sinking into flesh. “I think I’m going to—”

Hudson quickly glanced at Connie, who was sitting in bed next to him. His eyes were those of his dragon, his claws were out, and his horns were extending from his forehead. His skin was quickly fading to that sickly gray color that signified a partial shift.

Hudson grabbed Connie’s chin and stared into his eyes. “No.” The powerful voice of his dragon demanded attention. “You will not change.”

Connie sucked in a breath. “Yes… yes, my king. Dragon gods above, I will not lose control!”

As Hudson watched, Connie fought for control. Breath shuddering, he gave himself over to Hudson’s demand. Eventually Connie’s eyes returned to their lovely shade of brown, his horns receded, and his claws disappeared.

“What the fuck was that?” Connie choked out, still shaking. “I was dreaming about, about, something, and now I can’t really remember, but I kept hearing the word ‘choose’ and then suddenly I was really upset, and I just, I just….”

“Easy, sweetheart.” Hudson wrapped Connie up in his arms.

“I almost lost control. I can’t believe I almost lost control. I could’ve easily destroyed this section of your house if I had changed into my dragon.”

“But you didn’t.” But it’d been close. “You got the urge under control. Do you remember what you were dreaming?”

“Good thing I was in bed with you because I don’t think I would have otherwise. And no, I don’t really remember. It’s like it’s there, right on the edge of my brain, but I can’t remember for some reason.”

“Okay.” Hudson hugged Connie again. “But you remember the word ‘choose’, right?”

“Yes. It’s like the word was shouting inside of my head. But I don’t think it was aimed at me. And I was afraid. And upset. Sad. Oh, wait. I do remember something.”

“What?”

“I was circling above a person in dragon form, but he had long, light-brown hair. He wasn’t one of us with that hair color.”

Goose bumps crawled up Hudson’s back. There was no way, absolutely no way, they could’ve both had the same dream. Could they? It certainly sounded like they had. “Connie?”

“Yes?”

“It was a man? You’re sure?”

“I am, but I don’t know why I’m sure.”

Hudson took a deep breath before replying. “I think I had the same dream.”
