Tuesday Teaser

Is it me or does Axel seem tense still?

I’m picking up on that too.

I’m not sure why. But one thing I know for certain is that I’m about ready to kick both Denisha and Maia on the ankles. They’re taking the whole silent bodyguard role to ridiculous new heights. I know they have their reservations concerning Axel, but this is fast becoming awkward. Austin glared at both of them when Axel wasn’t looking.

Axel was practically vibrating with tension.

Should I ask him what’s going on? Screw it, I’m going to ask him what’s going on. “Hey, Axel, is everything okay? You’re as taut as a bowstring.”

Axel jerked in surprise then sheepishly looked around. “Yeah, sorry. The full moon is coming up.”

“Ahhhhh. I see.” Kage nodded slowly. “That explains why you seem so…. Yeah. It makes sense now.”

Austin looked from Axel to Kage. “I don’t get it.”

“There is some debate that a full moon can affect sleep patterns, the ability to concentrate, and emotions, which can cause anxiety.” Kage glanced around. “It can also affect animals both on land and in the sea.”

Kage glanced meaningfully at Axel.

“Oh?”

It took a few seconds, but Kage saw when it finally dawned on Austin what Kage was trying not to say since they were still surrounded by humans.

Oh!  Wow, so there is some truth to that myth. How interesting.”

“It will be taken care of,” Kage reassured Austin quietly.

“Gotcha.” Apparently, Kage had picked up on some Austin’s worries through their bond. “How long until the full moon?”

Kage pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and started typing. “Tomorrow night. Damn. I’m sorry, Axel, I didn’t realize. You should have said something. Look, don’t worry. I’ll make arrangements.”

Tuesday Teaser

~excerpt from book #3

The wolf sat up, yawned, then ambled back toward them. He bumped his massive head against Terry’s leg. Laughing, Terry scratched between Alex’s ears.

Kage raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything.

“You seem tired,” Terry said to the wolf. “Let’s not overdo it on your first time. Now that you can shift, you’re welcome to whenever you want. Why don’t you change back, and I’ll fix us something for lunch?”

The wolf head-butted Terry again and wandered into his room. There was a flash of light and low murmured complaints after Axel shifted.

“I’m dressed. You guys can come back in,” Alex said.

Kage followed Terry back into the room. Apparently Terry had been right about overdoing it. Axel looked a little pale. He was sitting on his bed, and the hand he ran through his hair quivered.

After Terry finished checking Axel over once more, he took to the shadows to retrieve the lunch that he’d made. Since Axel seemed a little wobbly, Kage decided to wait until Terry got back.

“Are you okay?”

“That took more out of me than I was expecting.” Axel shook his head. “It’s ridiculous how weak I am.” Axel held his hand up which was still trembling.

“It’s going to take time. You didn’t get in this condition overnight and you’re not going to get out of it overnight.” Kage moved to the small sitting area in Axel’s room. On a table was a glass of water. Picking it up, Kage brought it to Axel.

“Thanks.” Axel took several big gulps. There was an overbed table next to him, and Axel put the glass on it. “I know it’s going to take time. I just hate being weak.”

“I don’t know of anybody who does, but I understand what you’re saying,” Kage said, standing next to the bed. “As soon as you’re able, Austin and I will help you move into your new apartment.”

Axel glanced down and sighed tiredly. “Are you sure you want to do that?”

“It’s already been decided. We’ve talked about this, Axel.” Kage rested his hand on Axel’s shoulder and squeezed gently. “Are you having second thoughts?”

Axel looked up. “I know you offered, but I don’t want to take advantage.”

Removing his hand, Kage sat down next to Axel on the hospital bed. “Believe me, you’re not.”

“I just want to make sure. I do appreciate it, though.”

“It’s not a problem. We both want you to get better.”

“Although the dead gods only know why.”

Before Kage could respond, Terry popped back into the room with his and Axel’s lunch.

“That smells delicious,” Kage said, standing. “I’m going to go so you two can eat. I’ll talk to you later, Axel.”

“I’ll be here,” Axel joked.

“See you later, Doc Terry.”

“Have a good day, Elder.”

Thursday Book Recommendation

These are books I’ve read and really enjoyed. Most of what I talk about will probably be paranormal/scifi but not always. Although it’s rare, I do read some contemporary.

This week is:  Blaine's Beast: An MM Beauty and the Beast Retelling by Joel Abernathy

Blurb:

It's the coldest night of the year--the kind of cold that sinks its teeth into the bones of anyone unlucky enough to find themselves at nature's mercy. Frostbitten and exhausted after getting kicked out of his home when he came out to his parents, Blaine is about to become the forest's next victim.

But when the howling wolves surrounding him turn out to be a pack of cursed shifters who only want to help the trespasser on their territory, Blaine's bad luck takes a turn for the better. As Blaine begins to uncover the secrets of this strange place straight from a fairy tale, he discovers that its beastly master may be more than he appears...

Blaine's Beast is a standalone MM Monster Romance retelling of Beauty and the Beast that was previously published under the author's pre-transition pen name as Blaine and the Beast. This story has been rewritten, but the foundations are the same.

Tuesday Teaser

“Heart sounds good, your reactions seem fine, but you’ve definitely lost some muscle mass, which isn’t surprising all things considered,” Terry said as he straightened.

The wolf woofed softly again.

Terry walked to the door and opened it. “I don’t have any patients on the floor outside of you, so if you want to walk up and down the hall for a little bit and get some exercise, that’s fine.”

Terri and Kage followed Axel who padded outside to the hallway. The huge wolf stretched then started trotting down the hall.

“Everything really is okay?” Kage asked Terry quietly.

“As far as I can tell,” Terry said. “As I said, he’s lost muscle mass, and his wolf is much weaker than it should be. But plenty of food, exercise, and lack of stress, along with time, will help him more than anything.”

Axel’s wolf was sniffing every corner he could find. Once or twice he got into a cobweb and sneezed.

“Austin and I are going to move Axel into the Dominion. That way I can provide most of what you mentioned,” Kage said, then frowned. “Not sure I can guarantee the lack of stress, though.”

He and Austin had had extensive conversations about this. Austin had backed Kage fully on the idea. There was no way he would undertake such a thing if Austin hadn’t been completely on board.

No way was he going to jeopardize his relationship with his mate—they had both agreed on that. If Axel tried to cause trouble between him and Austin, Kage would kick Axel out onto the street.

If he lived, fine. If he didn’t, that was okay with Kage too. Nothing mattered more to Kage than Austin.

“Wolves are all about the drama,” Terry agreed.

“The Crimson Fangs pack thought Alex was their alpha. It was actually Nox masquerading as Axel, so now they have no leader. I’m sure they’ll find a way to blame Axel for that. We haven’t heard the last from them,” Kage said.

“Werewolf politics.” Terry shuddered. “Thank the gods we daemons don’t have that kind of crap.”

Alex’s wolf plopped down on the floor, dropped down, then rolled from side to side, his hind legs kicking in the air. Terry snickered at Axel’s antics.

“Well, our clan doesn’t,” Kage said, laughing too. “Can’t speak for other clans.”

The wolf sat up, yawned, then ambled back toward them. He bumped his massive head against Terry’s leg. Laughing, Terry scratched between Alex’s ears.

Kage raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything.

Thursday Book Recommendation

These are books I’ve read and really enjoyed. Most of what I talk about will probably be paranormal/scifi but not always. Although it’s rare, I do read some contemporary.

This week is:  You Will Never Know: A Dark MM Sci-Fi Mafia Romance by Chani Lynn Feener

Blurb:

Hunter Thorn is on the run, living daily in fear of discovery and retaliation from the mafia leaders he once betrayed.

Sanctum is a planet practically cut off from the rest of the galaxy, where ruthless people who can control the elements rule. The Emperor has turned his back on the people, more interested in lining his pockets than waging war against the Brumal mafia. Hunter once worked for the Snow family, but a threat against his sister forced him to choose a side, and in the end, he chose wrong. He's been paying for that choice ever since, constantly moving, traveling across the planet in an attempt to hide. But everyone knows there's no such thing as escape from a regular Brumal member if they want you, let alone from one of the Three.

Odin Snow, the Dominus of the Snow family, had everything taken from him ten years ago.

He's clawed his way ruthlessly back to the top, reclaiming his family name and their rightful place amongst the Brumal. Mostly. There's still his step-brother to deal with, Isa Frost, the orchestrator of everything unfortunate that has ever happened to Odin. And then there's Hunter. As teens, Odin had looked up to the older boy, had even maybe cared for him, but all that'd got him was a bullet to the shoulder and months' worth of bedrest while Isa stripped away his title and family home. Now that he's found Hunter again, Odin isn't above using old feelings to get what he wants. The plan is to use Hunter to get under Isa's skin. Odin wants them hurting the same way he hurt. He wants to see them bleed. At least, that's what he always believed. But what happens when it turns out what he really wants is Hunter in his bed, at his mercy in a different way?

On a planet ruled by criminals, does Hunter have a hope of escape, or will he be consumed by the very flames Odin Snow is famous for controlling?

Trigger Warning: This is a dark romance with themes some readers may not be comfortable with. This includes torture, dubious consent, depictions of violence, explicit sexual content not suitable for younger readers, and drug usage (though mildly shown on page). If any of the above-mentioned aren't to your tastes, please do not read this book. I have other Sci-Fi MM books available that are not considered part of the Dark genre that may be more suitable for you.
