Thursday Book Recommendation

These are books I’ve read and really enjoyed. Most of what I talk about will probably be paranormal/scifi but not always. Although it’s rare, I do read some contemporary.

This week is: Blood Kiss: A Vampire Mafia Romance (Sanguis Syndicate Book 1) by Christa Tomlinson

Blurb: No Price Is Too High To Pay When A Vampire Is Determined To Claim His Mate

Vampire Everett has zero interest in purchasing a human to meet his blood needs. As a crime lord in the Sanguis Syndicate, his nights are too busy to have time to care for a human in exchange for their blood. Until a gorgeous redhead steps onto the auction stage. Suddenly, Everett is willing to bid any amount to win the charming young man for himself.

Solan entered the blood donor auctions as a lark. But things quickly turn serious when he meets the glowing blue gaze of his tall, stern vampire patron. Solan fights his attraction to Everett, determined to complete his contract without any physical or emotional entanglements. However, the sensual intimacy of sharing his blood with Everett, of feeling his fangs pierce his neck, might derail all of Solan’s plans to resist him.

Bound together by a contract, passion slowly begins to burn between the vampire and his pet. But will that passion be enough to keep them together once their contract comes to an end?

Blood Kiss is an M/M vampire romance. It has a spoiled but loving mob prince, the stern vampire who adores him, blood drinking hot enough to melt your e-readers, and a guaranteed Happily Ever After.

“See you then.” Kage disconnected the call and looked at Austin. “Hey, babe.”

“What’s an arachne?”

Of course Austin would ask that, especially after hearing Kage didn’t like them. His cock went into hiding at the subject. “An arachne is a paranormal who can create strong webs, just like real spiders can do, when they shift.”

“When they shift? Wait. Wait. There’s a paranormal who can turn into a spider? Really” Then the excitement drained out of Austin’s face and he paled. “Oh my God. They can shift? Oh my God.  I’m never killing a spider again! Jesus, Kage, why haven’t you told me this?”

Kage rested his hand on Austin’s knee. “Babe, they don’t shift into what you’re thinking of. They’re still human sized with some features of a spider.”

“Features?” Austin’s eyes widened, then he shivered. “Oh. Features. Oh, wow. Whoooo boy. That’s, ah, that’s kind of disturbing.”

“I agree.” Did he ever. “They’re also capable of changing humans by biting them so they can propagate their species, but most humans die instead of turning.”

“That’s, ah, counterproductive.”

“It’s why there are so few of them—only three worldwide. They can also poison humans through their bites, turning a human’s insides to liquid and sucking them dry.”

“Yuuuck. That’s so gross. Did I say yuck? Because yuck.” Austin shuddered. “That’s a visual I didn’t need, thank you.”

“It’s disturbing, I agree. And like regular spiders, they can spin webs too, like I mentioned, but their spinnerets are on their forearms. They may or may not use a web to trap their prey. No one knows for sure, because no one living has ever seen one of them feed.”

Austin’s shoulders practically drew up underneath his ears, and he shivered hard. “Nope. No thank you. That’s one paranormal I have no desire to meet.”

Kage grimaced. “I assume you overheard mine and Hudson’s conversation?” Since Kage had started feeding Austin his blood, Austin’s senses had become enhanced.

“Yeah. At least from when I came in here. Sorry. I’m still learning how to not hear things I shouldn’t.”

“It’s not a problem, and it takes time. You’ll get there. So, you did hear Hudson and me talking about a neutral meeting place and who could offer it?”

“Yes.”

“If Isadora is willing, we’ll most likely have the meeting at her restaurant, which means you will most likely meet her.”

Thursday Book Recommendation

These are books I’ve read and really enjoyed. Most of what I talk about will probably be paranormal/scifi but not always. Although it’s rare, I do read some contemporary.

This week is: Man of Carnage: Virtuous Sinners Series by Nicholas Bella

Blurb:

The hunter becomes the hunted… or does he?

Family, loyalty, brotherhood, and respect are the codes Zaire “Ze” Esai lives by and why the Lords of Chaos Motorcycle Club is the perfect fit for him. A ruthless killer with morals is almost unheard of, but that's what keeps Ze grounded. As an enforcer, he can satiate the darkness within him and deliver justice to those who deserve it. All is going well for Ze until one day, the father of a man he “eliminated” sends someone after him to even the score.

Colton Bridger is a seasoned assassin who never misses his mark. He enjoys his job because the money is good, but the thrill of the kill is better. When he’s commissioned to take out a target who murdered a wealthy man’s son three years ago, he gladly takes the job, expecting it to be business as usual. What he doesn’t expect is to meet his match in the man who is the cub to his Tiger.

In a game of cat and mouse, neither man knows who is the predator and who is the prey. Tensions are high, but libidos are higher. The chemistry between the two men reaches nuclear levels, leaving them confused and wanting. Will they be able to ignore their thirst for blood in order to quench their desires for each other?

Warning: This is a dark MM romance featuring alpha males with aggressive and possessive tendencies. Plenty of action and chaos. This story is also a prequel to the Road to Carnage series.

Virtuous Sinners is a collection of gay romance stories that center on killers who are guided by a virtuous code. These dark novels are connected only by theme and can be read as a standalone.

Kage didn’t bother to fight the shoulder that wracked him. “Gods, Hudson.”

Austin blinked in surprise, then frowned at Kage.

“I know, I know. But Isadora is about as neutral as we can get. Her kind are loners, so we’d just be dealing with her. Not a clan or pack or whatever. She doesn’t claim territory like we do—well, outside of her home and restaurant.”

“She’s an arachne.”

Austin’s eyes widened.

“Your irrational fear of spiders is showing, my friend.”

And he was completely unapologetic over it. He was a daemon—a paranormal who could manipulate any shadow around him. It didn’t matter if it was a bright sunny day or the dead of night.

If there was a shadow nearby, he could step into it and disappear. If that wasn’t frightening enough, he could manipulate a shadow to do his bidding. Even another person’s shadow could be used against them.

He also used the shadows as a portal and could reappear anywhere in the world—as long as there was a shadow, that’s all he needed.

Didn’t change the fact spiders creeped him the hell out. Then add in a paranormal who shifted into a spider-like creature? No way.

“You know she’s the best bet.”

Kage knew that, but it didn’t change his feelings on the matter. “I hate you. I want you to know that. Fine. I’ll deal. Contact her and let me know if she’s agreeable. I’m sure she’s going ask to be compensated for losing a night’s worth of business, so I’ll pitch in on that.”

“That’s fair. I’ll call her shortly. Are you and Austin still coming for dinner tonight?”

Austin nodded frantically.

Kage grinned into the phone. “Yes. We’re going shopping for office furniture today, but that’s all we have planned. Six o’clock, right?”

“Yes. I’m looking forward to it.”

“Austin is looking forward to meeting other dragons.”

“Alright, James Bond, give it to me in English.” Kage was going to need more coffee if he was going to have to deal with Hudson in super spy mode.

“Synthetic-aperture radar, or SAR, is a form of radar that’s used to create two-dimensional images or three-dimensional reconstructions of objects, such as landscapes. 3D SAR can enable localization in all spatial directions—even giving the potential to resolve, or separate, the target from surface clutter.”

Kage was tempted to snarl at the cell phone. “All I heard was blah, blah, blah. Simple English, dammit.”

“It looks like a base, but there’s an underground bunker. Images show what looks to be inhabited cells and possible labs that are all under a few miles of dirt. Which means we’re going to need access in order to get underground.”

“Dammit.” That was going to take some planning.

“It’s time to call a meeting with the paranormal leaders here in San DeLain and hammer out a damn plan of action. We need to see who’s really all in and who’s just talking a good game.”

“You want to do that or me?” Kage asked.

“Let me. You strike fear into too many paranormals.”

Kage snorted. Like other paranormals were any more comfortable about dragons.

“Where do you want to have this meeting?” Hudson asked. “Any suggestions?”

Closing his eyes, Kage leaned his head back against his desk chair, thinking for a moment. He opened them again and stared at the ceiling. “Away from the prying eyes of the humans, that’s for sure. Especially with that many paranormals in attendance.

“I’m going to throw this out there now—I don’t want that many paranormals on my home territory. I don’t suppose you do either—”

Kage sat up. “Absolutely not.”

“They wouldn’t be comfortable there, anyway. Besides, we need to do this on neutral ground.”

“There is no neutral ground, not if we want away from humans.” Kage pointed out.

“Shit. Let me think for a moment.” Dead silence filled the line. Kage could hear Hudson breathing. Finally, Hudson spoke. “I have an idea, but you’re not going to like it.”

A soft sound at the door of this office caught his attention. Austin stood there, a question on his face. Kage waved him on in, and Austin perched on the edge of the desk.

“Is that Hudson?” Austin mouthed.

Kage nodded to Austin as he answered Hudson. “I don’t like any of this.” If Hudson was leading with that, his suggestion must be a doozy.

“Yeah. Although, to be fair, if this works, you won’t be the only one unhappy. How about Beau Monde? The owner owes me a favor. I’ll ask if she’d be willing to shut down for one night and host us.”

Kage didn’t bother to fight the shoulder that wracked him. “Gods, Hudson.”

Tuesday Teaser

~excerpt from book#2 in the Daemons of San DeLain series. No title as of yet, but Kage and Austin are the focus again.

Once breakfast had been cleared away, Austin went to shower and get ready. Kage fixed himself a cup coffee and wondered upstairs to his office. He might was well check his emails while he waited.

Sitting down in his chair, he booted up his computer. As he waited, he sipped his coffee, contemplating which store to go to first. The shrill ringing of his cell phone dragged him out of his thoughts.

Pulling it out of his pocket, he accepted the call. “Good morning, Hudson.”

“We have confirmed the location.”

Kage set his coffee down. “Right to it, huh?”

“Yeah. Shit, Kage, it’s not all good news.”

Kage expected no less, honestly. “Okay, tell me.”

“It appears the information Tammy gave us is correct.”

That was a relief, seeing as Tammy was a hunter who’d approached Kage and Austin. She offered information on a base location. In exchange, she wanted them to rescue Oscar, a male werewolf she’d had a part in kidnapping.

Talk about a twist of Fate.

Hunters were abducting all kind of weres because they want to splice were generics with humans to make a super soldier that they could control in a war with paranormals.

Turned out Tammy had been one of the first to be injected. No one foresaw a side effect being the mating bond wolves and other weres formed.

Oscar, the very wolf Tammy had a hand in abducting, was her mate. And she wanted him set free, thus the deal with Kage. She was being held in Hudson’s dungeon at the moment, making Hudson a very unhappy dragon. Tammy might be Oscar’s mate, but she was still a hunter and untrustworthy. At least the was Kage’s opinion.

Hudson recommendation was to serve up some barbequed hunter for dinner. So honestly, the dungeon really was the safest place for her.

“There is a site where she said in Montana, in the Bitterroot Mountain range,” Hudson said.

Kage leaned back in his chair. A mountain range made sense—very secluded and not easily reached. “So Tammy came through. Is the site active?”

“It was as of last evening.”

“That’s good, then. They haven’t abandoned it, even though Tammy went missing.”

“Yeah, that’s the good news.”

“Good news? What’s the bad?”

“We have visuals of underground targets thanks to 3D SAR.”

“Alright, James Bond, give it to me in English.” Kage was going to need more coffee if he was going to have to deal with Hudson in super spy mode.
