This is a teaser from Kiss Me Deadly, which will release Oct 1st. I feel the need to mention that this book was written years ago, lol (although it has been rewritten and expanded). I say this because of the teaser. Once you read it, you'll know why I bring up the date. *grin* 

“I HATE you, you Hell spawn.”

“It was your bright idea to have Matt over, not mine.” Henri snickered.

Jude met Henri at some big-name discount grocery/department store. Even though it was fairly late at night, the place was still busy with a wide variety of people dressed in… interesting ways. Jude actually did a double take when passing one woman.

Music from forty years ago played through the store, the lighting was harsh, and there was an odd stale scent to the air. Something also beeped incessantly. This place was Hell on Earth, and he wanted to leave in the worst way.

Here was the deadliest creature on the face of the planet pushing a cart with a broken wheel—and of course the cart went in the opposite direction Jude wanted—throwing foodstuff into the cart. To say he wasn’t happy was an understatement.

“I’m actually surprised you haven’t chucked the cart across the store, slashed several other shoppers to ribbons, and created a bloodbath from aisles fifteen through twenty.”

“I will end you. Just keep it up, Henri.” To make matters worse, Jude had no idea what things to buy. He hadn’t eaten food in nearly two thousand years. Back then, food like this didn’t exist.

Henri rolled his eyes. “Jalapenos, pork and beans, Spam, dried raisins, and mashed potatoes in a box. Are you trying to woo him or poison him?” Finally, Henri reached for the cart. “I’ll take over getting what is needed. Oh, and there needs to be snacks too, so if Matt gets hungry, he can nibble. And we’ll definitely need toilet paper.”

“You’re obsessed with toilet paper.”

Things were quiet now, so Henri must be done. Jude returned to the bedroom and opened the door. “Finished?”

“Oui. Please, come in.” Henri gently ran his hand through an unconscious Ryan’s hair. “He’s such a lovely one. Thank you for letting me have him. You didn’t have to.”

“No, I didn’t,” Jude said, sitting on the edge of the rumpled bed. “But truthfully, the hunt was winding down, and I was losing interest.”

“Still?”

“Yes. Once the hunt’s over, I’m over, it seems.”

“Are you well, my friend?”

Jude’s laugh was harsh. “Who knows? It’s not as if I can ask another of our kind. After all, I am the first vampire. Unfortunately, there are only two who could possibly answer my questions, and I’d just as soon not see them. The last time the three of us were together—well, let’s just say things ended badly for me.”

Jesus and Lucifer.

Good and evil.

JUDE, AS he was now known, surveyed the dance crowd. It was Friday night, and the place was packed with eager humans. He sniffed discreetly. Ah, and not just humans. There were more than a few others here too: shifters of various kinds, a demon, and what he called gifted humans—those who could control things with their minds or start fires with just a thought. He took another deep breath. And a few witches. Interesting.

He ran a hand down his chest, drawing attention. Many interested glances returned his perusal. Several more gave him a wide berth. He smirked, well aware of the picture he presented. His perfectly styled dark hair tempted fingers to mess it up, and his chocolate brown eyes promised dark delights. The two traits certainly helped lure his prey.

Jude shivered at the lust and fear directed toward him. The frightened pleading as he drained humans of their life had always excited him, but his methods had changed over the many centuries.
