Wednesday Briefs
Welcome to the Wednesday Briefers
flash group. The short stories have a maximum of a 1000 word count plus links
at the bottom to the other flashers. The prompts for this week are:
"Anything you want, you got it..."
or use: ferry, head, position,
or "May I ask what you
think..."
or use an animal of some kind or use
an accident
or "When he/she said... I
thought I would..."
I’m
using: "May I ask what you
think..."
All That He Desires #6
“May I ask just what
the hell you thought you were doing by hanging up on me?” Miles snarled.
Jules ran his hands through his hair. Class was over and
Miles had ambushed him outside. And yes, he was as mad as Jules figured he’d
be. He really shouldn’t have been surprised. He’d called, but Miles hadn’t answered,
which warned he was in full drama meltdown mode. Sighing, Jules buttoned up his
coat. It was cold and getting late too. The stupid instructor had kept them over…
of all days that stick in the mud had to keep them over, it would have to be
today.
“I’m sorry, man. I should’ve call back, but I had things
going on. Yeah, I was shocked when you told me they’re moving. That really
knocked me for a loop, considering I’d just said something about it, but I
shouldn’t have hung up. Or at least I should’ve call back. Look, don’t be mad,
okay?”
“That’s it? That’s all you have to say?” Miles puffed on a
cigarette, leaning against the side of the building. He yanked the collar of his
coat up as a cool wind teased his hair. “You act like a jerk and all I get is
this half-assed—”
“I said I was
sorry. You want me to write it in blood or what?” Jules snapped. Oh God, oh
God, he was running out of time, plus now he owed Miles another apology. He glanced up at the sky. The sun had set, the
last brilliant displays of yellows, oranges, and purples sinking below the
horizon. Night was on the way. He needed Miles to leave, dammit.
Jules shivered in his coat. Lovely, the damn wind was
picking up. “Ah jeez, sorry! I didn’t mean to snap. It’s just—”
“You do know smoking is a dangerous habit, right? It can
lead to all sorts of nasty things.
You really should think about giving it up before it’s too late.”
Jules stiffened. Oh holy fuck, he knew that voice. It had
whispered all sorts of things in his
ear last night. Dreading what he’d see, he turned. Yup, there was a body, a
real body, attached to the voice and dressed in a long black
leather coat and a green scarf—just like before.
I’m fucked.
* * * *
Anslee stopped several
feet from Jules and his friend. One human looked ready to pitch a fit and the
other looked like he was ready to fall to the floor in a dead faint. He’d
warned Jules he’d come for him when darkness covered the land. Of course, he
hadn’t said where he’d show up, now
had he?
Anslee held his hand
out. “Shall we, Jules? I do believe I told you early this morning I’d come for
you.”
“I-ah… I…”
“Well, shit, man!” Miles elbowed Jules, a grin on his face
while he eyed Anslee. He ground out his cigarette. “No wonder you hung up on
me. Why didn’t you just say something? I’d have definitely understood.”
“I-I-I…”
“Whoo wee.” Miles winked at Jules. “Right then, I’m off. You
two have fun. Give me a call when you can, dude, ‘cause, you know, you got some
‘splaining to do!” Miles thumped Jules on the back. “Don’t do anything I
wouldn’t.”
“Ah…”
“Jules?” Anslee raised an eyebrow at Jules, his hand still
extended. “Come.”
Jules listened to Miles twitter at the word choice as he
hurried off, and somehow found his hand in Anslee’s.
“Very good.” Anslee drew Jules closer. “My car is over
there.”
“I-I-I…” Jules snapped his mouth closed. “Running would do
me no good, would it?”
“None at all.”
“Are you going to hurt me?”
Anslee walked Jules to his sports car and opened the
passenger door. “Hurt you? That’s the last thing I want to do you to, little
one.”
“Then what the fuck do
you want with me?” Jules slid in the car, the well-appointed leather seat
holding him close. “Why are you hanging around me? How the hell did you even notice me?
What did I do to—?” Jules waved his hand at Anslee.
What did I do to—?” Jules waved his hand at Anslee.
Anslee shut the door and walked to the driver’s side. Once
in, he started the car, the engine growling to life. “What did you do to gain
my attention? Nothing really. I happened to be passing by and felt your
desperation, so I stopped. Buckle up, Jules. ”
Jules pulled the seat belt over his chest. “And?”
“And I presented you with an questionable opportunity that would solve
your problems—the
winning lotto ticket.”
“Shit, that was you?”
“Yes. That’s what my kind does. We present an opportunity
and wait to see what you humans do with it. But there’s always a catch. For
example: a man loses his job, his car, and is about to lose his home. He robs a
bank… and gets away with it, but loses the life, and the family he once had, because
now he’s a wanted criminal.”
“Jesus.”
“If you take the opportunity offered, which you did, by the
way, then my kind is free to pursue you. You yourself wondered about that very
thing before you cashed the lotto ticket.”
Jules closed his eyes
as they pulled on the main street. “So I doomed myself when I cashed it in?”
“Don’t think of it that
way. Think of it as you opened yourself to opportunity… to me, in particular. ”
“Are you human? Good or
bad? You called yourself a dark lord. Does that mean you’re… bad?”
“I am neither good nor
bad. I’m called a dark lord because of my features—my dark hair and skin. I’m
not human either, but you already knew that. I am áimear—one
of the dark lords of Opportunity, and you are mine.”

Welcome Sage Marlowe
Hey guys! Today I have Sage Marlowe visiting. She's an author I met through FB and yes, I've read some of her work... and loved the hell out of it! Like BDSM? Then you really need to check this series out. I read Re-Submission and loved it. LOL, now need to get book #1 and the upcoming release too.
Hi all! I’m
delighted to be a guest here today—thank you so much for stepping by!
When
Characters Take the Reins
My name is Sage
Marlowe and I’m a multi-published author of gay erotic romance novels. I write
stories about real men that face real problems. Usually this works quite well for
me but so metimes, as an author, I face some real problems with my characters.
After seeing
several couples and a triad on their way to happy endings, I've grown used to
all kinds of behaviour from my characters. Some are the quiet kind, some are
very noisy, some can't wait to tell me their story, some require a bit of
coaxing. Characters are people who sometimes become friends. And sometimes, they
just won't go away. The boys from my Sub-Series are such characters. It all
started with Francis Hollister. When he first entered the scene in Sub-Mission, he was supposed to play
just a minor support role as Pierce's brother and the proud owner of the BDSM
club where the story is set. That was the plan. But Francis—France—being the scheming
deviant he is, kept sneaking up on me again and again until eventually, he
became a very important element in the story.
But that was not
enough for him—oh no, far from it. By the time Sub-Mission was submitted and ready for release, he'd already
charmed his way into my heart to the point where I just knew that I'd have to
tell his story, too. Re-Submission
was born.
My first
thoughts about the book were to give France the perfect sub to complement the
Dom in him, but once again, I found myself with characters who snatched the
reins to the story right out of my hand and ran away with it. I'd planned to
tell the story from France's point of view, or maybe from his partner, Shae's,
but no. Before I knew it, a third guy entered the scene. Tyler. I remember the
moment very well. My exact thought was "Oh, crap. What am I gonna do with him?" I had never intended to write
a threesome, least of all in a story that was so clearly meant for two, a Dom
and his sub. Tyler was persistent, though. Not only did he wriggle his pert
butt into Francis' club and ultimately, into bed with Francis and Shae, no, he
also took on the role of narrator which, I think, makes for a very interesting
constellation. Their story is so interesting in fact, that Re-Submission was
nominated Best BDSM Book of 2012 by Love Romance Café.
But that still
wasn’t the end of it. When I finished Re-Submission,
I knew there would be a follow-up on Tyler's story. I started writing that but
then I got sidetracked—again. Noah from Sub-Mission
stepped in along with his husband Pierce, and those two grabbed the story along
with my mind and ran with it. There was no hope for resistance. I just had to
write those two a sequel. At least they were kind enough to deliver the plot
willingly. Very willingly, and oh, what a plot. I squirmed and cried and asked
them if they were serious so many times. They took me through all the ups and
downs of a long-term relationship, through the wear of raising a baby and the
tear of mistrust, misunderstanding and jealousy. I cried for them and with
them. I loved them for their devotion and hated them for their blindness and
stupidity. They told me a story I hadn't expected in many ways and put me through quite an ordeal but it was well worth
it. Sub-Culture is, for several
reasons, one of my favourite and most personal books.
Now that I’ve
told you so much about this series, why don’t you see for yourself what I had
to deal with writing those books? If you’re new to this, please note that while
each book stands alone, there is an overall story arc that is best enjoyed when
reading the books in order of release (Sub-Mission,
Re-Submission, Sub-Culture), so here they are in the correct order:

How far would
you go to save the one you love?
Pierce Hollister
is a down-to-earth businessman. Most of the time. His romantic side has him
secretly dreaming of Mr Right, a family and happy ever after.
Noah Conway is a
single father who doesn't believe in happy families anymore. When his
daughter's life is at stake, he would sell his soul to save her but as a sadistic
Dom takes an interest in him, he sells his body instead.
A shared session
at a BDSM club leaves Pierce intrigued and soon he finds himself willing to do
anything in his power to heal the wounds that life has left on Noah's soul.
When he realises that the very thing Noah dreads the most might just be what he
needs, Pierce sets out on a mission – but maybe it's just not in his power to
save Noah.
Will Noah be
able to battle the demons that haunt him and find the happy ever after Pierce
has dreamed up for them?

Rubbing a toppy
sub, a submissive Top and a Dom with attitude together is guaranteed to send
sparks flying — but what will they ignite?
Meet Tyler Kane.
Ballsy and headstrong, he's far from being the submissive type. Francis
Hollister, Dom and proud owner of a BDSM club, couldn't agree more — and yet,
as Tyler carelessly suggests a bet, Francis sees an opportunity arise and
decides to take him up on it.
Soon Tyler finds
himself in Francis' club and about to be trained as a sub. When Shae, the
gorgeous Top Francis has assigned to teach him, doesn't appear to be quite as
dominant as his role would lead to believe and Francis turns out to be a rather
versatile Dom, Tyler sees a perfect match just waiting to be made happen. Too
bad though that he's the only one who sees it. Or maybe he isn’t?
Curious to find
out what happens when you rub a submissive Top, a toppy sub and a Dom with
attitude together and what exactly the sparks from that explosive combination
ignite, Tyler enlists the help of Pierce, Francis' brother, and his partner
Noah, and sets out on a mission.
While Tyler's
plan seems to work out astonishingly well, it seems that there's more than one
man in the club who is pursuing a hidden agenda…

When life gets
on top, delving into a sub-culture may be just what it takes to keep a sinking
relationship afloat
Five
years after the bumpy start to their relationship, Noah and Pierce have settled
well into their lives as a happy couple. The arrival of a new child should have
made their matrimonial bliss complete, but the strain of raising a baby and a
teenager, combined with a lot of pressure in their jobs, is beginning to take
its toll.
In
the midst of what already is a potentially explosive situation, Noah’s younger
brother Jonah comes to stay with them, forcing Noah to face the issues he still
has regarding his homophobic parents and adding to the emotional pressure he is
under.
When
Noah starts behaving oddly and Pierce just can’t seem to put his jealousy to
rest, the cracks in their relationship become too severe to ignore any longer.
They struggle to keep their sinking love afloat but as Noah craves the comfort
a certain sub-culture can offer, Pierce finds himself wondering just how far he
is willing to step out of his own comfort zone to save their love.

About
the author
Sage
is a multi-published author of gay erotic romance and loves taking romance to
the edge. The edge of passion, the edge of pleasure, the edge of propriety.
Hopelessly
in love with books from a very early age on, Sage has dreamt of writing one for
years while working on the day job instead. It took a very persistent character
in the company of a much-adored Muse to finally get the first novel going. The
fact that this gorgeous guy was gay came as a bit of a surprise, but it
explained a lot.
Ever
since, Sage has been the willing slave to all the fascinating guys who just
keep queuing up and want their stories told. This has resulted in several published
books and countless manuscripts at various stages of completion, so there's
always something to work on—preferably at night when the rest of the house is
asleep.
Sage's
characters often have a dramatic and sometimes traumatic past and need to
battle some demons to be with the one they love. But don’t worry, they get
quite a lot of naughty action along the way to keep them happy and there will
always be a happy end!

Final Day of the Perfect release/Birthday Bash!
Whoot! Whoot! And here we are! Day 3 of the giveaway and my
birthday! Thank you guys for all the happy birthday wishes, y’all are the best.
I tell you what, I’ve had a blast reading the comments. Thank you for
answering! I love seeing what you guys think. :) It’s been a great three days.
Perfect
has been released, and thanks to everyone that has already got a copy! If you
have it now, I hope you enjoy the new version. It won’t be long before Pure will be out and the whole gang will
be back, lol.
So, for the final day, let’s do this:
Did you know…
~My favorite color is red, but I’m fond of black,
white, and pink. We have four cars here and two are while, one is red, and one
is black, lol. Funny how that worked out. No, there is no pink car. Hahahahaha.
~I drink waaay too much Coke, but I have cut down lately.
Actually, I’ve gotten on an ice kick, lol. I’ve been crushing ice up and eating
it… like several cups a day. And I mean
one of those big cups. No idea why, lol, but it’s help cut back on all the
soda. Hey, did y'all notice... the cans are red! I like red, lol.
~My favorite meal is steak, potatoes, salad. My
second would be spaghetti with garlic bread. I hate spinach, lol. To be honest,
I’m not fond of veggies at all. Sad, huh? My favorite fruit is cherries. Gak, I
can eat cherries straight from the jar, lol.
~I’m pretty easy-going and rarely will argue with
someone, even if I know I’m right. *shrug* I don’t like confrontation and try
to avoid it… right up the point I’m finally pushed too far, and I lose my
temper. I don’t scream and yell…but yeah, there will be cussing, lol. It’s when
I get very cold and short I’m truly furious. It doesn’t happen often. I’m more of a peace-keeper type, lol.
~I don’t watch much TV but I do like some shows. And
my tastes run from Top Shot to Project Runway lol. Love me some scifi also. Oh,
God, and football. I’m a football nut. During the season I don’t work on Sunday’s
lol. I’m a Steelers fan as some of you may know.
~I love water, but being an Aquarius that shouldn’t
be a surprise, lol. There’s a big pond in the backyard, plus we live in the
country. Seriously, there’s nothing better than sitting on the back porch and
watching the ducks. Speaking of which, there’s more wild animals here than you
can shake a stick at, lol. And I love it.
~My favorite author’s are: J.D. Robb, R.J. Ward, and
Linda Howard. My favorite music is Rock, but I like the stuff from a while ago.
Yes, I like Metallica (Enter Sandman), Ozzy (No More Tears) lol, is that
ringing any bells??? And I could just go on, lol.
~I’m not much on traveling now because of my back. But
I’ve been to just about every major city here in the US when I was a kid. LOL,
my dad was a WW2 vet and there were these Reunions we attended every summer. At
the time I didn’t know how lucky I was.
So, on to the question…
What kind of cake do you like?
Don’t forget those email addies when answering too! I’ll announce
the winner later this evening.

Jaded billionaire Jeff Mayfield loves only what his money and power
can buy, but the Fates have plans for him. First a player in Jeff’s casino hits
a huge jackpot and things turn hectic. Then, in the middle of the chaos, Jeff
lays eyes on the unbelievably sexy Cam Smith—Cupid in his human form.
Seized by lust, Jeff makes a move, only to find himself on the
receiving end of a blistering wave of sexual intent. Cam disassembles Jeff’s
self-image and puts it back together upside down. But Jeff isn’t the only one
struggling with control. Cam’s alter ego is Jealousy, and if he loses his
composure, the consequences will be deadly.
Excerpt:
Jeff returned to the office and was reading
over reports while he waited for night. Zygi was with him. After reading the
same paragraph for the third time, he gave up and slammed the report down.
“Problem?”
“I hate to do this, but I want you to run Cam.”
Jeff leaned his head back against the leather chair. “I have a meeting to
attend. I’ll check back with you after it’s over.”
“That may not be enough time.”
“You can give me what you got.”
“This thing’s getting serious, huh?”
“Yes, it is. He may be the one, Zygi. I feel
like a heel doing this, but….”
“After Brad, I think it’s a good idea.” Zygi
settled a hip against Jeff’s desk.
“Maybe. I’m almost scared to see what, if
anything, you find. And it doesn’t seem I’m the only one with a love interest.
What about Cam’s friend—Mo? Do you think he’ll come to you?”
“I don’t know. I’m going to give him a few
days. If he doesn’t show up here, I’ll go after him.”
“Well, that sounds… vaguely threatening.” Jeff
grinned as he poured himself a drink.
Zygi grunted. “I wanted him to come to me, but
he may be too shy. But that’s okay too. If Cam checks out, I may enlist his
help.”
“Poor guy doesn’t stand a chance.” Jeff
chuckled as he gathered up the papers he needed for his meeting. “But take it
slow. Mo seems really unsure of himself. Plus you are a big dude and a bit
intimidating.”
“Big, hairy, and scary.” Zygi rolled his eyes.
“Isn’t that what Garrett said all those months ago when Randy ran away?”
“Huh, yeah. I’d forgotten that. Okay, I’ve got
to go to that stupid meeting. I’ll check back with you in a couple of hours.”
Jeff stood staring off into space, not moving.
“What’s up?”
“Oh, just remembering something else Garrett
said.”
“What?”
“He said that since he had fallen to Cupid’s
arrow, you and I would be next. I told him I was happy being a playboy bachelor
and fully intended to stay that way for a long, long time. Looks like I’ve
changed my mind.”

Day Two of the Perfect Giveaway/Birthday Bash
Hey everyone! It’s day two of the Perfect
giveaway/birthday bash.
Blurb:
Excerpt:
Yesterday I focused on Cupid, the little imp. Today
it’s my turn, lol. Well, sorta. So, let’s do this…today I’m going to let some
of my characters ask ME things… about anything, lol. Should be interesting!
So, come on in and have some cake! Ohhhh, I just love cake. I mean really, it should be its own food group, lol.
Dale (The Harvest):
Hey M! I’ve always wondered, what’s your middle name?
M: Marie. It’s a family name. The youngest kiddo’s
middle name is Marie also. It’s been passed down for a long time. The hubby and
I had her name picked even before we had a name for our son, lol. We named him
while I was giving birth. *snort* Honest to God, that’s the truth, lol.
Keyno (The Harvest):
What did you base my species on?
M: Oh man, lol. Well, contrary to what some think,
it wasn’t the Thunder Cats. Actually, I’m a huge scifi fan, and, well, I’d been
watching Star Gate: Atlantis. The Ta’Narians are based on the…wraith. *smirk*
Bet several of y’all just fell out in a dead faint, huh? LOL. That’s what the Ta’Narians
started off as, then feline characteristics took over. But that’s where Keyno’s
white hair and eyes came from.
Shawn (Nighttime Wishes):
What’s your favorite color? I’m curious because several of your covers have
blue in them.
M: *laugh* It just worked out that way. Red is
actually my favorite color. Even my car is red.
Bryan (Nighttime Dreams):
Ha! Better question than our covers, Shawn, is why tentacles??? Where the hell
did that come from, M? Not that I’m complaining, mind you.
M: *blush* I’ve told this before, lol. Y’all’s story
came from an anthology I was going to sub for and changed my mind at the last
minute. There was just too much for a 20K word limit. Thus, tentacle porn was
added to what I’ve written about, lol.
Jason (Shadows in the Night):
You made me a cougar shifter. Keyno has cat-like features. Then there is Taz,
another alien with cat-like features, but different than Keyno’s. Seems to me
you like cats. Am I right?
M: Absolutely, but I’m allergic to them. However, that
didn’t keep us from adopting Kitty-Kitty a little over a year ago when he
showed up Halloween night, lol. Well, he adopted us. He’s my writing buddy now,
and I don’t think I could do without him.
Chip (Shadows in the Night):
What’s your favorite holiday?
M: That’s easy: Halloween. When the kids were little,
I’d go all out. The whole house was done up. When I worked, I’d dressed up as a
black cat too. The kids in my class loved it, lol.
Chaus (Into the Darkness):
Speaking of Halloween, do you like vampires more than other creatures? I
believe I’m the third vampire you’ve written.
M: *snort* Not at all. I love all my nonhuman guys,
lol. It just happens you’re the meanest, lol.
Dale (The Harvest): Come on, M. That picture
wasn’t the one you first picked out! Show the one you had originally… you
chicken, lol.
M: Okay fine! There! *big grin*
Well, after that, how about we save some of the Q&A for tomorrow too.
LOL! On to the question!
~The question for today is: I’ve written about a lot of different
type of characters that live in a lot of different places. But… where would *you
guys* want to live? Under water, the country, the big city, on another planet?
Hit me with some places, lol!~
Don’t forget those email addies when answering too! Here’s the blurb
and a short excerpt from Perfect...
What
happens when a human by the name of Jeff Mayfield inadvertently lays a monster
challenge on the God of Love… one that Cupid can’t resist? Jeff is willful, stubborn, and egotistical… and, best of
all, doesn’t think love is something he needs in his life.
Can
Jeff be…
Perfect?

“So, what is he, or who is he? Cam, I

Mo took a deep breath. “He wanted to be
the one to tell you, Jeff. He’s Cupid, God of Love. He’s had his eye on you
since he first saw Randy and Garrett. And no, he didn’t make them fall in love,
any more than he made you fall in love. He didn’t use his arrows on any of you.

Jeff sat back in his seat, rubbing his
hands. He hadn’t realized what a tight grip he’d had on the wheel. “So, what has
Zeus got up his ass about this?”
Mo frowned. “Up his ass? He’s not gay as
far as I know, Jeff. But that’s not to say he hasn’t—”
“Oh my sweet baby Jesus.” Jeff had
forgotten that Mo took everything literally. “Why is he not happy with this
situation?”
“Ah.” Morpheus snorted. “You’re human.
The gods don’t care all that much for humans. Plus, you are not immortal. We
are.”
“Shit.”
“Nicely put. There’s more, and this is
the hardest. Cupid stands for love, right? That’s what the mythology says, and it’s
true. He has arrows that can make people fall in love or fall in hate. But what
most humans don’t know is that there are two different sides of Cupid. You saw
a bit of the other side earlier.”
“What do you mean?”
“That there is a dark side of love:
obsession and jealousy. The other side of Cupid is Jealousy, the green-eyed
monster that drives people to do horrible, destructive things. Jeff, I’ve seen
Jealousy once, and he’s scary. You have to believe in your love for Cam. You
need to keep talking, keep explaining what happened—while I stand guard.”
“Stand guard?”
“Jealousy truly is a monster.”
