The One and Only is live in KU!

The last werecat book is out and purring up a storm lol. ;) I'm kinda sad to see the series come to an end, but oh... I have plans. PLANS, I say lol.

Blurb: Turmoil in the West Falls clowder has reached a boiling point.

Brier Fendon, the last unmated beta, is sweating bullets. His goddess has swept through their ranks, handing out mates willy-nilly. While he would be okay with a human as a mate now, thanks to the changes his Alpha has brought, he’d still prefer a werecat. And he sincerely hopes the goddess Bast has taken note of that, because he figures he’s next.

Careful what you wish for.

Reports of an unknown werecat in clowder territory spurs unease, and Brier is sent to investigate. Fortunately, the scent still remained, but there’s something disturbing about it. All werecats have a personal scent marker, all except for this one. What Brier’s smelling—or not smelling, as the case may be—is impossible.

Tyler Smith has suffered a lifetime of abuse from the paranormal community. His own species considers him an abomination. Hated and reviled since he isn’t a pure werecat, Tyler has learned the hard way not to trust anyone but his mate, Seth. But although he’s an outcast, Tyler is more special than anyone knows, and he has a choice to make.

Seth Galloway is the most feared paranormal to ever exist, thanks to his abilities. What he’s capable of is the stuff of nightmares, and if he has to kill to protect his mate, Tyler? So be it. He has before, and now Tyler’s goddess has set him and Tyler on a path that may end with even more death and destruction.

Fear of the unknown and a lifetime of pain are just some of the roadblocks Brier, Seth, and Tyler will face. Bast has waged a war to bring her children out of their isolationism and bigotry, and things have spun out of control. A threat hangs over them all and death looms on the horizon. A sacrifice will have to be made, and Tyler’s choice will dictate the future of werecats—and other shifter species as well.

Tuesday Teaser

One last teaser from The Only and Only. This comes near the end of the book, so I've deleted some stuff--don't want to give anything away lol. ;)

Seth exhaled loudly. “Okay, you asked me a question about my abilities. I can manipulate any shadow around me at any time of the day or night. If there’s a shadow nearby, I can step into it and disappear.”

“Fuck,” Remi whispered. “Dude, not going to lie, that’s a scary ability. I’ve also heard rumors you can teleport via shadows.”

“Yes. I can. I can reappear next door, or in the next town, or on the other side of the planet,” Seth said. “Um, I can see from the shadows too. That’s how I recognize where I’m going.”

“So, are you saying you could go explore the Titanic?” Remi asked.

Dolf spluttered.

“Well, never tried, but yes. As long as I stayed in the shadow world—meaning I didn’t step out of the shadows—I could. Don’t really care to drown, you know.” Seth chucked.“Shadow world?”

“That’s his… realm. His domain. It’s a completely terrifying place.” Brier shuddered. “No color, no scent, no sound. It’s a void of nothingness.”

Dolf’s eyes widened. “You’ve been there?”

“Tyler has traveled my world with me several times when circumstances called for it. I took Brier because he has the right to know exactly who and what I am.” Seth hesitated. “I can manipulate any kind of shadow to do my bidding too.”

“Well, that’s not terrifying at all.” Remi joked then ran his hand through his hair. “Goddess, I’m glad you’re on our side.”

Tyler frowned at Remi. Briar knew what prompted that reaction from Tyler. He also noticed Tyler didn’t mention he spoke to Bast. It was his secret to share, so Brier kept his mouth shut. Tyler probably thought Dolf and Remi would ridicule him.

Brier understood. He found it hard to believe himself at first, until a certain goddess made herself known to him. Speaking of the goddess, should they tell Dolf why Seth and Tyler were here? Bast had made such a big to-do about threats, changes, bad things happening and so on.

Then there was the whole ‘one and only’ thing, and whatever that meant, which kept cropping up. Shouldn’t Dolf know that? This was information he’d surely want, right? Or would he think Tyler wasn’t all there in the head? He really needed to speak to Tyler in private, which he couldn’t do here. Too many werecats with keen hearing around.

Dammit.

“Thank you, Seth, for being so honest with me,” Dolf said. “I appreciate it. If I could make a suggestion, Brier? It might best for the three of you to mate and do it as quickly as possible.”

Brier’s grin was as bright as the sun. “That’s going to be taken care of tonight.” He winked at Tyler, who was slowly turning red. “Or possibly as soon as we get home. It’s been a long few days.”

Seth snickered.

“Good. After that—”

Raised voiced interrupted Dolf.

“He’s in a meeting. No, you will not! You have no right to barge into my house and ignore what I tell you.”

The sound of a struggled seeped through the closed door of the office. Dolf surged up, and his chair flew back, nearly hitting Remi, who yelped.

“What the hell?” Remi shoved the chair out of the way. “Dolf?”

Dolf growled, and the loud noise reverberated through the room. As Brier watched, Dolf’s eyes turn blue.

“Um…?” Tyler eyed Dolf nervously.

“Shit, Kirk, move. You don’t have the strength to stop…. Oh, hell no! You did not just shove my mate! Fuck, Kirk? Are you alright? Dolf!”

Dolf roared and leaped across the table.

Tuesday Teaser - The One and Only

~More from The One and Only~

“Omigodomigodomigod.” Tyler hopped up. “I told you once we find our mate, we’re done. No one will ever draw our attention, that you wouldn’t even be able to get hard, because you wouldn’t feel desire. Remember that?”
“Yeah, so… well shit.” It hit Seth what Tyler was saying. “I got hard.”
“And the only one who should make you respond is me! Since I wasn’t there….” Tyler gestured wildly. “Do the math!”
“He’s our other mate, but we kind of already knew that, Tyler. This just proves it.”
“Fuck. Fuck.” Tyler paced in front of Seth. “Did he react to you?”
“I… that tingle when we touched. I think he felt it.”
Tyler groaned.
“Babe, stop pacing.” Seth reached out and snagged Tyler’s hand. “I’m pretty sure he didn’t know what was happening.”
Tyler took a deep breath, held it, then slowly released it. “Yeah. If he’d thought you were his mate, he would have reacted differently. Wonder why he didn’t.”
“I doused myself with that cologne you hate so much, remember? Even you said it messed up your sense of smell, so I’m going to assume it played havoc with his. And I smoked on the way there too.”
“I… I guess. I just don’t understand how he was fooled. I mean, you present as human. You smell like one. I took one look at you, smelled you, and knew.”
“I wasn’t trying to hide from you. I was him. Well, not him per se, just werecats in general. I don’t have answers, babe. For all we know, Bast may have done something so he couldn’t tell I was a mate.”
Tyler groaned. “Great. Lovely. Sure. Why not? That makes as much sense as anything else. Fuck, what did you say his name was?”
“Brier. He’s about 6-foot-tall with a swimmer’s build—you know, long, lean, and toned. Like most of your kind actually. He has shoulder length, light brown hair that was parted on one side and flipped over. He’s lightly tanned, has an angular face with a slim nose with a mustache with hair on bottom of the chin. He’s sexy, Tyler. I won’t lie.”
Tyler pursed his lips. “He sounds like it. But he’s a werecat, and that worries me.”

“Thanks for coming.” Dolf sat at the table in his office, the betas sitting around him. “Before we start, I want to update everyone on the construction on the jail. Tal and his crew finished up, and it passed inspection. We’re officially open, and Marshell is in charge.”
“Will it be opened full time? Do we, I don’t know, have shifts there?” Remi asked.
“Yes, it will. I’ll be interviewing for positions to help him out so I don’t foresee a need for my betas to be there. There are only a few cells, but if there’s a crime committed that’s significant enough, I’ll send that person on to the Territory Leader to deal with. Think of it as a holding tank.”
“What’s he going to do when the place is empty?” Brier asked.
“Running applications for admittance into the clowder, coordinating with me for clowder related issues, and things like that,” Dolf said. “I’ll keep him busy.”
Heller grinned. “So, he’s an administrative assistant?”
“Don’t bust his balls. He’ll help me keep things running smoothly from behind a computer,” Dolf said. “Marshell won’t hold the title of beta, but I will depend on him.”
“He’s reduced his hours at the shop for this too.” Janelle wrinkled her nose. “When the elders find out what he’s doing, they won’t be happy.”
“Yes, well, they can add it to the list of things they’re unhappy with.” Dolf’s eyes flashed blue for a second. “Moving along. The reason I called this meeting is because Sam noticed an odd scent on a dumpster at his restaurant, Arches. I sent Brier to investigate. It appears we had an unknown werecat in the territory, which, by itself, isn’t worrisome. Intruders usually move on. The problem is this werecat had no personal scent marker.”
Remi whistled. “Whoa.”
“Indeed. Brier? Would you repeat what you told me?”
“Yes, Alpha. The first thing I noticed was the faded scent of a werecat, but it was generic. There were stronger chemical-based notes—oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and water. As you all know, that’s the basic composition of humans, but this was no human,” Brier said. “This was a werecat, but it had no personal marker and—”
“Are you sure this werecat didn’t have a scent? Because, you know, we all do.”
“—and yes, I’m positive. I know we all have one, Heller. This one didn’t,” Brier continued. “Trust me, it’s not something you can miss.”
Janelle shook her head. “Sam found it first and said it confused his cat. Left him feeling territorial. Kinda pissed. It bothered him, which was why he brought it our Alpha’s attention.”
Dolf folded his hands on the table. “Which begs the question: How does a werecat not have a personal scent? I’ve never heard of such."

Tuesday Teaser

More from The One and Only:

Brier climbed inside and buckled his seat belt. “So, I hear we have a stop to make. Everything okay?”
Tal, sitting in the front, turned slightly, tucking a long stand of hair behind his ear. “Oh yeah, just need some paperwork I left yesterday. I was—”
“In a mad rush to get home.” Kirk snickered next to Brier in the back.
“After the text you two sent me?” Tal huffed. “Of course I was.”
“I’m surprised he didn’t get a speeding ticket.” Kirk winked at Brier.
They made small talk on the way to the office. Dolf got lucky and found a parking spot in front of Tal’s business, Martin Construction Company. It was located on the town square. Vehicles lined the street, thanks to the number of thriving shops.
“I won’t be but a minute. You guys want to come in?” Tal opened the truck door.
“Tal, wait.” Dolf snagged Tal’s arm, staring at the man standing near entrance. “Do you know who that is
Kirk leaned over, peering between the seats. “Why is someone hanging around the door? The office is open, right, Tal?”
“Yes. At eight.”
Brier gently moved Kirk out of the way.
“What the hell?” Kirk mumbled, smacking Brier’s arm.
“I need to see, Alpha-mate,” Brier said.
An attractive young man with big gray eyes and brown hair stood in front of the business tucking in his shirt. His hands trailed over his chest. Brier gulped. A very toned chest. Instead of walking inside, he ran his fingers through his hair—a length that would be perfect for grabbing ahold of. Brier jumped. Where did that come from? Finally the stranger reached for the handle then dropped his hand. Brier watched as the man took a deep breath. Then another.
“See what?” Kirk complained. “A kid standing at Tal’s office door?”
“He’s not a kid. Early twenties, I’d guess, but he’s a young guy none of us recognize who’s milling around the place where both my Alpha and his other Alpha-mate work,” Brier pointed out. Dammed if he would mention how his body was reacting. “A guy who looks nervous, going by his body language. That makes me nervous.”

Tuesday Teaser

Brier’s  coffee sloshed over the rim, scalding his fingers. Quickly he set it on the countertop. Of all the things he’d expected Breanna to want to talk about when she asked him over last night, this hadn’t made the list. “Did… did you just say you found your mate?”

“Oh! Are you okay?” Breanna grabbed Brier’s hand. “Here, let me….” She dragged him toward the sink. “I’m going to run cold water over—”

“You don’t have to do that. It’s not like it won’t heal in a few minutes anyhow.” Still, Brier stood patiently, letting her tended to the already fading burn. “Congratulations! Dammit, Bre, why didn’t you tell me that last night?”

Breanna patted the skin dry with a hand towel, tossed it to the side, and then refilled Brier’s coffee. “Try not to spill it this time. Anyway, one more day wouldn’t change anything. I mean, yeah, I would’ve liked for you to come by then, but you sounded whipped. Everything okay?”

“Nope, you’re not changing the subject on me.” He bopped her on the nose. “I’m fine. Now, back to you. A mate, huh?”

“Yes!” Breanna bounced on her toes, giggling. “So, I was at this store in the mall, and from out from nowhere, came this scent! By all that’s holy, talk about the best thing I’ve ever smelled. My cat went nuts—yowling and purring, hissing and caterwauling.”

“Yup, from what I’ve heard, that sounds about right. Seriously, congratulations.” Brier toasted her with his mug. “I’m happy for you.”

Sighing, Breanna picked up her coffee and sipped it. “Yeah, well, hold onto that thought because there’s more.”

He didn’t care the sound of that. “What?”

“She’s human. Just like Kirk and Lawson were before they joined. Her name is Shannon Smith.”
“Fuck, Bre.” Brier set coffee down and scrubbed his hands over his face.

Tuesday Teaser - The One and Only

His cell rang, and he fished it out of his pocket. Seeing the name on the screen, he exhaled deeply. “Speaking of drama….” He unlocked it and answered. “Hey, you. What’s up?”
“The sky,” Breanna quipped.
“Oh, ha-ha.” Brier rolled his eyes even though his sister couldn’t see him. Breanna moved back to the clowder not long ago and had made it her mission in life to annoy the shit out of him it seemed. “That was funny when we were kids.”
“And yet you keep falling for it.”
“Did you call me for something?” Brier actually dreaded her answer. After listening to her whine endlessly about the snow where she lived, he’d told her to come home if she was that unhappy in Philadelphia. Should’ve kept his mouth shut, because the next thing he knew, she was calling with a moving date. “Or was it just to rag on me?”
“Calm your tits.”
“Damn, really? You have got to stop hanging around Janelle.” Breanna went to work at Janelle, Marshell, and Lawson’s car wash business as an accountant. She and Janelle hit it off at once.
“I’ll make sure and tell her that.”
“No! Don’t you dare.” Knowing Janelle, she’d take it out on him the next time they had a training session. She was a beta, and a totally badassed Vetala.
“Now, see, what I heard was you’re open to blackmail. Excellent. Unless you want me squeal, you better swing by my apartment later.”
“I hate you.”
“Bullshit. I’m your favorite sister.”
“You’re my only sister.”
“Semantics. So, when can I expect you?”

Tuesday Teaser - The One and Only

Prologue
In the distance, a twig snapped, the sound sharp and explosive. Unease pricked his skin. Slowly he opened his eyes, scanning the darkness around their campsite. Shadows danced at the edge of the dying light from the fire. Silence reined. No leaves rustled as small animals scuttled along the forest floor. No crickets chirped. No frogs sang.
Gently he nudged his mate, who slept in shifted form in his arms. Eerie blue eyes popped open, bright and clear, but he made no sound. His whiskers twitched, and his nose wiggled as he sniffed. Those beautiful eyes widened as he understood danger stalked them again.
Yeah, they’d dealt with this before.
They’d been so careful, but then, they normally were. Once more it didn’t seem to matter. Why can’t they just leave us alone? They never bother anyone—never stayed in one area long—but trouble always found them. So, who had their panties in a twist now?
When it came to his mate, every damn shifter in the world appeared to had a problem with the beautiful redheaded Omega. Well, fuck every last one of them. They’d learn the hard way not to mess with what was his.
The soft tread of footsteps on grassy ground came closer. Whispers floated on the breeze. “One smells human.”
“Good. Then we don’t have to worry about him.”
He smirked. They always thought that. They were always wrong.
“Go, babe,” he whispered, loosening the grip on his mate. “Find that tree we agreed on. Stay there until this is over.” An escape plan was always a must.
The werecat in his arms shot away, a red blur.
“Dammit, the freak heard us! It’s running!”
Annoyed he pushed to his feet. His mate was not an ‘it’ nor was he a freak. The shifter in human form took off after the werecat. The sound of one of the men shifting carried on the breeze. He didn’t have the strength to take on a shifter, but he did have something else. He tackled the huge wolf before the shift was finished.
Together they rolled toward the base of a tree and into the shadows. Keeping a tight hold on the furry, muscular body, they disappeared into his world, a void that was eternal. And of the deepest black. No light eased the unrelieved darkness. No sound disrupted the never ending quiet. No scent to evoke memories. Complete isolation with no escape.
It was a bleak prison, a land of nothingness, where he abandoned any threats. In the emptiness, they only had their mind to keep them company as they stumbled through the darkness, waiting to die.
Served them right.
The creature in his arms whimpered, snapping his massive jaws and fighting violently for release. Shoving the shifter away, he left the wolf to his fate and stepped out from the shadow world. Before him stood the other man at the base of the tree where a red werecat hissed down at him.
“You freak of natural.” The werewolf growled, cracking his knuckles. “If you come down now, you won’t suffer for days. After we’re done with your freaky ass, we’ll make your death quick, you fucking halfbreed. If I have to come up there and get you, I promise my buddy and I will take turns with you.”
Coldly he stared at the werewolf’s back. Idiot hadn’t even realized he was there yet. “You really shouldn’t have bothered us. Now you pay.” He reached out, snagged the shifter by the shoulder, and pulled the shadows to him.
Threaten his mate and the price was a slow, silent death.

Tuesday Teaser

This little snippet comes from the last werecat book, The One and Only.  It's unedited too, so forgive any mistakes. :)
~M

Pulling into Arches, Brier lucked out and quickly found a parking space. Sam’s restaurant employed both humans and paranormals, but he always filled the managerial positions with werecats. Lately Sam had focused on employing more women from the clowder, which, of course, hadn’t gone over well with the elders. He’d bet Janelle was behind that move.
He walked inside, hunted down the manager, and informed her he’d be prowling around out back. He headed to where Sam said he noticed the scent. Thanks to a weak streetlight, shadows reached from darken spaces. Tree limbs rustled in the lonesome breeze. Fuck, it was really isolated back there.
The opened dumpster sat behind the restaurant in a small alley. A vacant lot with overgrown trees was across from the back of the restaurant. The closer he got to the dumpster, the more the hair on his neck stood up. His cat suddenly growled. Not one to ignore such a warning, Brier expanded his senses, looking for whatever was disturbing his animal, but there was nothing… nothing but an odd, faint scent under a confusing melody of smells.
His cat stalked in his mind, tail swishing.
Brier sniffed. There was the barely-there tang of werecat, but it was so faded, so… weak. Generic. But even that was nearly drowned out by much stronger chemical-based notes—oxygen, carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen… and water? What the hell?
His nose twitched, and he mindless rubbed it. Sam was right—something was seriously off with the odor. Confused, he stared at the dumpster. What he smelled reminded him of… dammit. It reminded him of a human, not a werecat.
Then it nailed him between the eyes. “Holy shit, there’s no personal scent marker. At all.”
His cat yowled.
Reeling, Brier stumbled backward. All werecats had a personal scent. All of them. His own was sweet, light, and fruity. Sort of citrusy—or so he’d been told.
How could a werecat, who had obviously been here in shifted form, not have a personal fucking scent? He’d never heard of anything like that. How was it even possible? Fuck, he couldn’t tell if the shifter was male or female.
